Ararat Roadhouse — Restaurant in Victoria

Don't bother. I wondered when we pulled up if they were open. The facard and surrounding area looked a bit desolate and unkempt. And this continued on right through the building. There is nothing to compliment the place for. The floors were dirty and needed sweeping. The walls were just awful looking and dirty. The ladies toilet... I dont know where to start.... all just disgustingly filthy with sanitary bins in each cubicle overflowing and pads etc literallyfalling out! There was pee over floor and seats. Other rubbish bins were also overflowing. Very bad smell. Didn't use. Not sure of their hygiene standards but certainly not what you expect in a big roadhouse in Australiathese days... explains why it looks slightly abandoned. Drive further on or head...

Thought they would have eggs and bacon for breakfast, was told they couldn't do it as they didn't have the staff. We were told that last September as well. What we had was nice though. Also no soap in ladies toilet and was told to ask the girl on otherside doing the fuel. When I asked her she said I would have to wait as she had to unlock it with a key, so I waited. She went and got the soap and put it in and I said thanjyou but no response, and said thankyou again no response. We have stopped here everything going to Adelaide but if the service and attitudes of staff are like this we won't ...

Stopped in for a meal at 3.30ish on a weekday, expected we might have to have a hot meal from the bain marie but no, they were happy to cook. Service was friendly and grilled fish was seasoned perfectly. Chips served in individual tiny fryer baskets. Tartar served in its own dish and a salad that left you wanting more of it. Really impressed and I'll be back. I think next time I'll make sure to eat in again too. Did I mention that this was all with one person on? Its how these places used to be when you were travelling.
