Was very excited to come here following all the great reviews.
However other than the lovely ladies behind the bar, the lady stopping every car coming in and not letting them through unless they made a donation which had to be notes was ridiculous, I'm all for donating when I know what it's for and if I want to, not being forced too. Also, I wouldn't have minded if everything else inside was good
Only had 5 items of food for service. Small kids portions, the beef curry was horrible, no flavour at all. Nuggets and chips were edible.
The music 🙈 omgg the main entertainment I came for was so bad we left straight after our food. Played songs and killed them.
Sorry, but thankfully, I won't be returning to Barney's again.
Edit: I understand there was a bushfire recovery when I got in. However, the lady didn't advise when entering just that you had to pay, and it needed to be notes.
I understand I read the news and it's devastating the bushfires all over Australia and like I said, I don't mind donating for a good cause when I know what I'm donating for. Well, unfortunately, I didn't get to taste the lovely food that you so greatly described, and I have worked with an Indian chef in Melbourne CBD and unfortunately the beef curry was tasteless again in my opinion..
Yes we see the music and not to comment on the nice guys singing but the songs were butchered.
I've a very positive person but I also am very truthful.. Like I said, the staff were lovely, that was about all.
But thank you for replying and staying...
Read moreWe arrived on Anzac Day, this place was packed. We’ve managed to get a table, but the food explains why the place was packed.
Firstly, the service is spectacular. From being seated, to trying to order at the bar, to recommendations, and the food arriving. You could really tell that the people here aren’t just doing their job.
Secondly, the food! We ordered two Parmas and a burger. Personally, I love the variety of Parma options. We went with a Hawaiian and a Mexican. Both parmas were very large, cooked well, chicken was of high-quality as were the toppings. Even our 11 year old is till talking about how good it was.
The burger was a standout for me, patty was a flavourful, cooked exceptionally well and was pink in the middle. The bun was actually delicious and every single ingredient was fresh.
Considering the quality of food when the place was so busy and the fact that its all dishes were cooked to perfection, is a true testament to the kitchen.
We have sincerely enjoyed our time, and are sure to be back if we’re in the area.
Edit: we have returned for a second night, which was no less impressive. We ordered the steak, the beef salad and a children’s Parma. The steak was cooked perfectly, medium rare just as ordered. The salad was fresh and dressed well. The Thai salad was spectacular, beef was fresh, miso egg cooked perfectly.

Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Barney’s Bistro and Bar in Victoria, and from start to finish, it was an unforgettable experience. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between relaxed and refined, with attentive service that made the evening feel truly special. The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the kangaroo loin – cooked to perfection with a beautiful sear on the outside and incredibly tender within. The dish was thoughtfully plated and paired with seasonal vegetables and a rich, subtly spiced jus that complemented the natural flavors of the meat without overpowering them. It was my first time trying kangaroo, and I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction. To round out the meal, I went with the apple crumble, and it was everything you’d want in a classic dessert – warm, comforting, and absolutely delicious. The crumble topping was golden and buttery, with just the right amount of crunch, and the apple filling was spiced and soft without being mushy. Served with a scoop of velvety vanilla bean ice cream, it was the perfect sweet finish to an exceptional meal. Barney’s has clearly put thought into every aspect of their menu, and it shows. Whether you're a local or just visiting Victoria, this spot should be high on your list. I’ll definitely be back – and next time, I’m...
