Charlton Bakery Cafe — Restaurant in Victoria

Passed through the town and saw they had a bakery so stopped for a good stretch, we parked near the caravan park and local toilets, walked a short distance to the bakery to grab lunch, we are family of five, 2 x adults , 3 x teenagers, we had 2 x Sausage rolls which were large for Dad and Daughter, 2 x steak and onion pies ( standard size) delicious chunky onion in the pie *for youngest son and Me/mum and one steak,cheese and bacon * for 16yr old daughter said was best pie she has had !! * To go somewhere and pick something to eat quickly is most of the time impossible and being indecisive always sets a mood , but everyone just chose something and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their tasty pastry ! First visit in 2022 was okay — decent pies and friendly staff, but even then there was no Coke No Sugar available.

This time (2025) was just bad. “Cash only” sign on the door was the first warning. Then we see someone inside literally choking on their pie — not exactly reassuring.

I ordered the curry pie, partner got the plain. My first bite was all curry powder and runny meat. Halfway through, the thing exploded — just full of liquid. Lucky we weren’t eating in the car.

The plain pie was fatty, and parts of the mince were cold like it hadn’t even been heated properly.

Great choice of baked food, whether it be a pie, pastie or sausage roll or something sweet. Although the pepper pie was too hot for my son, we replaced it with a different one which he enjoyed thoroughly. Milkshakes come in a handled jar, we sat inside and enjoyed the atmosphere for the time of day it was. The other half of the shop is a pizza shop, but it wasn't open. Great service, really nice staff. If you can zoom in on the right side front window you'll see a for sale sign there.
