We did not stay in the hotel but only sampled their food. We were planning to go to the snow and went here on a weekday night. It was the only decent restaurant around Harrietville so we actually did not have any other choice at the time. Me and my partner were so amazed at how good the food was. We both agreed that it was one of the best restaurant dishes we had. My partner ordered the steak and had the lamb shoulder. My dish was so good I said to my partner that it would be enough reason to do the 3hr+ drive just for that. Price was reasonable as the servings were big. The only reaso I did not give 5 stars is because of the staff/service. They had roast lamb ($25) written on the special menu board in the cashier area that night and I said to the guy 'Daniel' I wanted that. It was not on their menu and there was no any lamb on the menu either. Apparently they gave me 'lamb shoulder' which had a different more expensive price but only realised when they gave us the bill. And I was thinking back then when we were waiting for our food I noticed they erased the roast shoulder on the menu. When my partner asked about it when he was gonna pay, the staff 'Daniel' pretended that there was even a 'roast lamb' written on the board earlier. It was kinda deceptive what he did instead of owning for his mistake and apologising because when I ordered it was obvious I was pertaining to the roast lamb on the board as I was looking at it. And how the hell would I order lamb shoulder when it was not on the menu. I just found it weird what he did. Some staff were friendly but Daniel was not. He actually looked angry that night and did not smile at all. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars if it was only...

Stayed a few weeks ago in the 4 share using the hotel as a base for our snow trip. I wasn’t expecting much in the way of luxury as I knew it was basic accommodation but I would never stay here again.||Why? One of the main reasons is that the heaters do NOT HEAT the small rooms and turn off after a few hours, we all slept in thermals a hoddie and trackies.||This was really disappointing as there was NO HEAT AT ALL and all our snow gear was wet from a poor day on the mountain. This meant that the next day we were putting WET clothing on for our second day.||Other reasons, the accommodation was poor.||- Trundle and single bed not an adult size||- Female hair and lint on the trundle bed||- The bar fridge is the size of a shoe box, so don’t expect to have a few beers when you get back to your room||- The shower head was leaking with water pissing out of the side||- The tap leaked for a while||- The curtain was hanging off the track and had cracks in it||- No microwave or hair dryer (to try and dry our gloves)||- Don’t look up at the cobwebs!||Would not recommend this hotel and the only good thing i can say about it was the pub meal.||Unfortunately they cannot claim to be a base for a snow adventure as the one thing you desperately...

This is how good old fashioned hospitality should be. The local baker recommended us to this lovely pub, which ended up being amazing. The staff were fantastic and very friendly, Sarah kept an eye on us as we sat outside by the amazing pit fire and our two fur babies. The manager/duty mgr gave my husband a beanie, he looked cold and probably felt sorry for him lol. It’s a hotel with a relaxed atmosphere and a setting that’s conducive to striking up a conversation with locals and travellers alike, both of which we did. Living on King Island we can be a bit fussy with meat but my husband and the most delicious and perfectly cooked local rump. We started off with made fresh prawn toast - homemade, was so good & I had a chicken red curry that was the best. Don’t know how we found room after the well portioned size meals but it just sounded way too good, so we shared a dessert. I’ve attached a photo of what it was, a perfect winter delight. Congratulations to the chefs and staff for making sure that we recommend your business in Harrietville for a memorable meal.

Wow what an experience. Thanks to American for squeezing us in on Wednesday evening. A real surprise was this high country hotel. Each meal that was served ecceeded our expectations and delighted the taste buds. Embarrassing as it may be, I even ordered a second main meal after tasting my brother in-law's seafood linguini. So glad I did as I would have missed out on the exquisite flavours of the fresh seafood with the well balanced herbs and spices. This place has to be the best high country hotel I've been to. The ambience tops it all of with the glorious mountains as a backdrop. We are going back tonight for another treat before we go home. Great job guys

The pub is full of character and has a welcoming air plus great meals (on nights when the kitchen is open). Unfortunately, the accommodation doesn’t match the same standard and is pretty basic (3 star is a bit optimistic). Our room was cold when we arrived and didn’t improve much even with the heater which was pretty ineffective and which switched itself off after a while. This was October - and Harrietville still gets cold overnight - we can’t imagine it in mid winter! Wifi was poor. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the location was excellent.
