"Best burgers in Melboure", boasts the sign, (Buxton is over 100km North East of Melbourne, but lets not get caught up in geographical specifics). This place is legendary. It is somewhat dilapidated and certainly not lacking in quirks or eccentricities. It was originally two cylindrical huts that operated as tea houses, many moons ago, it is has since been sort of ramshackled into one building of sorts. This place does petrol, hot food and its shelves are lined with dusty old oddities for sale. The owner Hammy works it 7 days. He had a holiday 4 years ago, he went to Brisbane for 3 days. He told me this as he was preparing one of his famous burgers. He warned me of the great rural chip/dimsim shortage happening in the region. I travelled on to Marysville afterwards and verified that his warning indeed proved true, the Fish n Chip shop, as forewarned, had no chips. Nothing is stopping Hammy though, he told me at great length how he was now making his own chips. Legend of a bloke.

I only got petrol, but look forward to trying a burger and some bespoke potato action in the near future.

P.s Check out the Bain Marie biscuit display. What will Hammy...

Not overly impressed. Am I mad? No. Do I feel mislead by the "Melbourne's best burger"? No because I could tell by the photos that it was going to be sausage mince. Wait time seemed like forever and I had a slight glimmer of hope that it would be a nice juicy burger but it wasn't. I couldn't complain though as I was starving, all I could taste was lettuce and I scoffed it in like 5 mins. To me, it was sausage mince and I got a bit of gristle or whatever đŸ˜·I also understand for many reasons why the prices would be expensive and you can't always have proper mince however if you're going to claim you're the "best burgers in Melbourne" at least use proper mince, I'm sure there's a butcher not too far from the igloo road house. The chips were eh but the staff were lovely. If the quality of the food would be better I would happily come back again however when going to eildon, I'll happily wait an extra hour or so until I found a decent little...

I have just spoken to the owner “hamed” after an experience today with my partner who had driven me back from Alexandra to Melbourne n back to Alex. On way home she stopped at igloo for toilet n get a hamburger, even though just wanted a toasted h cheese n tomatoe toastie which was on the board n was told not making those today so grabbed a burger with lot. 1.5 hrs after getting home very ill n thats all she had so rang igloo n advised hamed of this as typical symptoms of food poisoning n he told me that doesn’t happen that quickly googled it n can happen in 30minutes! This USE to be an amazing roadhouse but not now ever since taken over n locals I know in area who use to go there regularly black ban it now Thanks Hamed for your understanding n just hanging up on me. I will get health people onto this now and...

We were told there was a famed burger joint near the Cathedral Ranges, but we had no idea they'd be quite so extravagant! As we were preparing for a decent hike, we needed something hearty to tide us over until the evening. The Buxton Burger did all that and more! Imagine all earthly ingredients of a burger skewered between two buns, that's a Buxton. What you get on the plate, or read on the menu, is wonderful service and a little history about this famous sandwich including hot tips on the most common methods for managing the madness. Despite its towering size, the burger was overall. The order of a large chips was probably unnecessary and they were significantly oversalted. That was the only downside of an otherwise overwhelmingly positive dining stop.

Came here to try the famous burgers, left a little disappointed however it was a long weekend. Great value for money and great serving sizes (the chicken burger was the size of the plate), we arrived at a very busy time with a wait of 40minutes, it was a little disappointing that the burger and chips we ordered were cold. Could acknowledge that if it was hot would have been a great homemade style burger and chips (perfect amount of chicken salt) Would give another go in hope of a hot burger and chips on a less busy day!

Stopped here for a bite to eat as no other alternatives around. Paid $5.50 For a small bottle of coke and $1.80 per dim sim. When I questioned the prices as they did not match the display board, I was rudely advised that the price displayed was the old price. Place stunk and the potato cake in the bainmaree looked like it was older than the elderly owner. Drive 15 minutes and go to Marysville instead where the time warp does not exist and the restaurants are clean.
