We stopped in on the way back from staying in Yarram for a couple of nights heading back home to Melbourne. We've stopped in Mirboo North a few times and have been to the bakery and a couple of other cafes and decided to try Lamazleighs as it looked nice. The cafe looked very active - but not overly busy and the nice young staff member found us a table. We ordered coffees and some table water - and were forgotten about thereafter for a little while. Coffees turned up after about 10 minutes - and we asked again for table water and this time the young staff member obliged with a smile and apology. The coffees were absolutely magnificent and spot on. We just wanted something small to eat (disclaimer here - we were unaware that there were other offering in the next room in the cabinet or that could have been made) as we were just handed menus. That's probably on us being unfamiliar (the toasted ham and cheese looked yum). I ordered a breakfast burger and my wife ordered a chicken burger. They took about 35 minutes to arrive. For transparency - my breakfast burger was very nice. My wifes' chicken burger - not so much. We had watched several come out for other people with the chicken pocking out under the roll. After she'd eaten about 1/4 of the bun she commented she hadn't tasted any chicken, and on opening up the burger there were 3 small pieces floundering on a sea of spinach. She was not very happy - and if she's miserable then my life is miserable (hence the 3 stars). We didn't flag this with the staff for a couple of reasons (which might be unfair). 1 - we couldn't wait another 35 minutes. 2. the staff were busy. 3. first world problem and were far to polite. About $80 for the burgers and coffee is a fair whack. Would we eat here again? Not as a first option at this stage unfortunately. Lovely staff. Nice place. Just missed...

Read moreAlways stop in on our way through town and was completely surprised by the changes! Haven't been since August.
Like the new fresh look, but shame the cosy, comfy, garden vibe is gone. Just kinda feels like any city Cafe now. Love the exposed wood and the colour palate. Will be great for all weather now which is a bonus. Acoustics are terrible, as a few others have stated. The waiter had to ask me to repeat myself 3 times, which I then had to do to him. Makes for a stressful working environment. Meals took over 40 minutes, not surprising since its still the adjustment period. I really hope the kitchen got an upgrade too and they didn't make the classic owner error of expanding the capacity and not putting any money into the service areas.
Am looking forward to coming again once some of the kinks have been worked out and sequence of service is second nature. There was still a fair bit of staff confusion over table numbers with food going to the wrong tables and people paying incorrect bills.
Please get a beer and wine list :) And we hope the chickens will be...
