I have eaten at this pub quite a few times in the last few months due to travelling in the area and have tried mostly all of their vegan options. The staff are always lovely and friendly. The scenery is beautiful, especially sitting out on the back deck. My only cons are with the menu.
I just haven't found the food to be particularly tasty. It feels like they have vegan options on the menu just because they need to be inclusive but haven't actually put thought into how those items taste. I think the options could be improved with very simple changes.
Firstly having more ingredients in the vegan burger and ensuring that the items listed on the menu are actually served in the burger. Also by using pizza bases that do not contain cheese for their regular pizzas. No hate to my GF friends but I don't necessarily want a GF pizza base as the only option just because the other bases contain cheese (not at all a necessary ingredient in pizza bases). Plus paying $4 for the GF base and vegan cheese on top of only having the option of a Large pizza feels a bit unfair.
The vegan burger is often a miss. The mushrooms aren't nicely cooked and tender. You get a piece of iceberg lettuce, relish and pickled vegetables (which in my experience is only ever picked onion). For the price you pay it is not comparable to the non-vegan/vego burgers. The menu says the the vegan burger comes with vegan cheese. However the first 2 times I had ordered it, the cheese was forgotten. So I asked the staff for some vegan cheese for my burger and both times I was given it still frozen. The 3rd and last time I ordered the burger I specifically asked for it to have vegan cheese when ordering to which the staff replied "It already has vegan cheese on it". Yet again, I was served a cheese-less burger.
The vegan schnitzel is made from creamy potato and peas. Nice but very greasy. I would recommend opting for the vegan parma instead so the tomato sauce balances it out a bit.
Overall, I'm glad there are some vegan options in such a small town. Always good to see but I found the menu a bit...
Read moreI rarely do reviews, but this was exceptional. |I visited the Noogee pub for lunch with a Probus group of about 50 people. We pre-booked the meals 2 weeks earlier as is normal with a large group. It was a Thursday lunch and while the pub wasn't full there were quite a few people already there. So I was really surprised to see only one person on the bar. I queued for a drink straight away as there was already a queue and there were 50 people about to join it. The queue quickly extended out the back door. It took me about 20 mins or so to get served. Others waited a lot longer. |Having pre-booked the meals and arriving at the booked time I expected the meals to start coming out almost immediately but it took about 40 mins for the meals to start coming out in dribs and drabs. After about 15 mins of the meals coming out, no more meals arrived at our tables but there were still 14 of us waiting for meals. After waiting 10 mins with no meals we spoke to our organizer, and he spoke to the manager. He had to take the orders again. We waited about another 20 mins for our meals to arrive. I had ordered a chicken parma with veggies. When I finally got my meals I was stunned. The Parma was the size of a biscuit (about 7 cm across). It was accompanied by about 14 chips (mostly very small), a small cube of pumpkin, quarter of a carrot and a tablespoon of peas and corn. For a second I thought someone was having a joke. I took the meal back to the counter I asked for the main meal I had paid for or give me my money back. |They ended up replacing the parma with one about double the size (still small) but nothing else was changed. The replacement parma had a smear of tomato paste on top like a GT stripe, a piece of ham about half the size of the parma and a smattering of melted cheese on top. Without doubt this was the worst combination of meal and service...
