Rochester Fish Shop — Restaurant in Victoria

Food, service, atmosphere. That’s what the Google review asks me rate, so let’s do just that.

Food - ordered burger with the lot and a fish pack, 2 crab sticks. Burger was pretty good, but then I opened the pack. Piece of fish that’s barely bigger than the crab sticks. 21 soggy chips. Yes, 21. I know it comes with minimum chips, but just look at the photo. Potato cakes are soggy, crab sticks are soggy, chips soggy. Dim sims, acceptable. 32 dollars for a burger and what you see in the picture? I’m actually blown away.

Service - unenthusiastic. Short. Unwelcoming. The kid? Toddler who belongs to one of the staff shooting customers in the face with a nerf gun. Not one word from his parents. I’ll stop while I’m still being polite.

Atmosphere - no lights on, no chairs outside, no sign of life. Had to Googled to check if they are opened.

I know the town was devastated by floods, but that was years ago. There are two viable options for takeaway; this fish shop and Rochy Pizza. At the pizza shop, the place was warm, inviting, the staff was friendly, the food was delicious, generous toppings. Pizza shop was probably an 8/10. Fish shop was 1/10 and that’s being generous.

The team at the Rochy Fish Shop are doing a fantastic job. It is great to see them back up and running post the terrible floods. Without doubt this is one of the best regional fish and chip shop that I have been to and is our go-to place for lunchtime when visiting the old man over that way. Our favourite is the seafood/fisherman basket for 2 which should be called 2-3 as there is plenty to eat. They do a rippa steak sandwich and are happy to join in the debate of beetroot or no beetroot. Can't wait to get...

To be fair we only have tried the souvlaki. Just passing through town. Entering the shop felt like walking into a small town pub, everyone stared. I'm guessing the female was an owner, she didn't tie her hair up (seriously that's disgusting in a food prep area. It's not a fashion show) The meat in the souva was horribly chewy. The salad was sliced so thin that it went to instant mush. Just disappointed, that's all. For a Greek heritage family business I was hoping for a small town winner. Nicely...
