Traveling along the Bass Coast you will encounter a number of take-away shops mostly offering fried foods, pastas, pizza and burgers. This can become a little monotonous and boring on the average trip, however... Occasionally you will experience absolute gems, and the Woodfired Pizza restaurant in Toora is one of them. The friendly atmosphere coupled with the warm rustic/country decor will invite you to stay longer than expected, and sure enough your senses will be delighted that you stayed. Tina (the owner) is a wonderful host and she will explain that the pizza base is from a home-made recipe and her ideology centres around the creation of a pizza with an average/filling topping (not over-the-top & wet and certainly not sparse). The crust is wonderfully baked and not the slightest bit soggy - so go ahead and use your hands! The crust is pertinent here - a small part crusty/solid whilst the majority of the dough is soft and baked to perfection. Another important addition is the shaved deli-ham on the tasty sugo sauce replacing that cheap stuff you see quite often that passes for a ham base - it's actually butcher leftovers mixed with flower, flavouring, and TVP (Textured vegetable Protein). That said, the topping portions were quite adequate, fresh, illustrious local vegetables that provides a filling yet very uniform and tasty meal that would fill the hungriest of travelers! After a very impressive main, there is a wide selection of sweets (and cocktails at the bar) to finish off the evening. I had to sample the Tartufo (my favourite) - to my surprise Tina provides three flavours other than the traditional cherry centre! Mint was the option for this quiet evening and it did not disappoint! All in all I felt relaxed and at home in a warm space created by our lovely host - a guarantee that not many can provide. I would certainly travel out of my way to visit again! Service with a smile 10/10, Food 10/10, Options10/10,...
Read moreThis is possibly the best woodfire pizza I have ever had, and I have had my share of good pizzas. I love how it puffs up but is crispy & not saggy. I normally cannot finish my pizza or it’s too salty but the taste is so good, I finished my whole pizza!
Then after having drinks, pizza & desserts for a family of 4, I was literally blown away at how good the prices were, especially for the quality. The same would have easily costed double at 400 gradi (and the quality of this is so much better).
Other nice touches were how they cut the pizza into smaller slices when they saw we had young kids (we didn’t even need to ask).
We had a wonderful time, my toddler loved watching the woodfire oven. Will definitely go back if...

What we didn't expect was to stumble onto pretty much the best pizza I have ever had in Australia.
I wish Google allowed you to rate something above 5 stars once per calendar year or something.
I live in Melbourne Eastern Suburbs and I'm thinking this will be an annual trek.
The crust was the perfect crunch. The ingredients were soooo much flavour.
