Very warm and friendly cafe and town.

Violet Town, a town in Victoria, Australia, has a rich history rooted in both Indigenous occupation and European settlement. It was surveyed in 1838, and land sales began in 1839, becoming an important coach stop and hub on the Melbourne to Sydney Road.

The town grew through the 1860s, with the arrival of the railway in 1872/3 further impacting its development. The town was also a significant location during World War II, with a RAAF fuel depot.

Here's a more detailed look at Violet Town's history:

Indigenous History: Aboriginal people inhabited the land around Violet Town for thousands of years before European settlement.

Early European Settlement: The Scobies took up Honeysuckle Station in the 1840s, followed by land selectors and developers, leading to the town's growth.

Development as a Hub: Violet Town became a key connecting point between Sydney, Bendigo, and other areas, particularly with the establishment of the Royal Mail Hotel in 1846.

Railway Impact: The arrival of the railway in 1872/3 shifted the town's commercial center west of the line.

Military History: Violet Town was represented in the Anglo-Boer War and had a war memorial built in 1901. During World War II, it housed RAAF No. 13 Inland Aircraft Fuel Depot.

Shire Formation and Abolishment: The Shire of Violet Town was incorporated in 1895 and abolished in 1994, with its area merging into other shires and a city.

Major Events: The town was also the site of a major railway disaster in 1969 involving the Southern...

An extremely welcoming gem in an already welcoming town, the Violet Town Café is a must-stop destination for anyone seeking a quality meal within the warm feeling of a family-run café. I enjoyed a fabulous burger that was hot and fresh with a generous serve of fries, and one of the best thickshakes I have had in a long time. The staff (whose names I have unfortunately forgotten) even let me wash my hands in their sink behind the counter after I had finished! They also have a wonderful selection of lollies too that are not so common, so definitely something for everyone. The flathead tails are also marvellous and...

I’m not writing this to be awful but the food was TERRIBLE. we came back here after having a fantastic fish and chips meal last time we were in violet town. The previous owners did a great job and the meal as simple as fish and chips and salad are, offered a great serving with quality batter and a descent sized piece of fish. ….. TODAY our same meal was TERRIBLE cheap nasty tasting batter of a small piece of dry fish. The salad none existing. FOR THE SAKE OF THE NEW OWNERS and for repeat business you need to be doing what the previous owners were offering. Good luck with your business but you need to offer...

The Violet Town Market if a good reason to find yourself in the small town on a Saturday once a month. After the experience of the market the Cafe is a great place to stop for some refreshments. Service at the Cafe is willing and happy making one feel welcome. Its also timely and these folk are proud of their food and make you very welcome. On the outside of the cafe is a mural which is as good as they get and I like most people visiting the town was blown away. If you are in the area take the time to stop. You won't be dissapointed and if you are the least interested in cricket you to will probably be blown away.

My son had a hamburger and I had the chicken focaccia. My son is quite hard to please with food, having issues with texture and taste. But he loved the hamburger and ate the entire burger, which is unusual for him. My focaccia was very tasty, coffee was a little "sour" if that makes sense, but was still drinkable. The ladies there are lovely and very chatty. Great place to stop between Bendigo and Albury.
