Service, upon entering, was slow and lack lustre. Had another person put menus on table in a pile, after we sat down, only one (1) kids menu was offered [which was later removed, even though it has a colouring activity on the page]. Handing menus to diners is how it should be done, not old tatty drinks menus that need replacing, and taking care of dumped on top of oversized menus that take up half a table. This is just the start. So far, this has been 2 different people serving us, not how hospitality should be working for a small local business. The drinks order was taken by the woman who greeted us, a bottle of tap water was provided to the table, we had to ask for ice, and had we been offered filtered, still, sparkling or bottled water initially we would have ordered that. Some people hate tap water, and as a paying customer, business owners have to get in touch with what their customers like. Upon ordering: 2 kids meals, an adults meal for the teenager, and a penne Bolognese (off the menu) plus a pizza.... the woman taking our food order kept saying so spaghetti Bolognese but with penne? No, it's penne Bolognese. If you're a pizza & pasta place selling an "italian" theme, then educate all staff on pasta. Penne is the pasta, Bolognese the "sauce". Here comes the kicker, ANOTHER person comes out, carrying a bowl with 2 hands bringing the spaghetti Bolognese. Nope, sorry love, not what we ordered. Not how's you serve diners either, learn to carry plates properly, and furthermore, kids are always to be served first, and never ever ever bring one meal out at a time. That aside, we noticed the spaghetti had been overcooked. Meals eventually came out, not exactly a la carte because no one has bothered to train their staff in correct professional service. And with 3 different people serving one table of 5, also not how we do it in the industry. Presentation is everything when dining out, clearly the person preparing the meals is no chef, and not cooking each meal from scratch. Which is fine, as long as it's fresh. The pizza base was definitely not fresh, and came out quite soggy. The Bolognese sauce was mediocre, at best, and the mince quality ... No words to describe that awful taste, I wouldn't feed it to my dog. We ordered dessert to take away. I honestly would NOT recommend this place to anyone, not anyone who enjoys eating out regularly, and not anyone who knows Italian cuisine, and not anyone who is in the industry. The GOOD NEWS is the extremely voluptuous lady who could barely walk was extremely lovely in tone of voice, and she's easy to take pity on for her health issues. The lady who was over worked and clearly stressed, with the dark hair who took our orders, was really kind and patient with us. And the very young blonde girl, still learning the ropes never failed to smile and laugh with us. The problem is, this business won't stay afloat unless they make some alterations to how they focus on team leadership, team work, customer service, plus food quality and presentation. They make it hard to support local when they've got some big competition just around the corner. I would love to see this business thrive, and there's so much potential for them to improve, maybe they're new and still having some teething issues, I might go back in 6 months (if they're still there) to see how they've...
Read moreThis is a great Italian family restaurant tucked away at Drovers Market Place at 1397 Wanneroo Rd, Perth, WA).
We've been going to 8 Slices for over a year now, and we just keep on going back, sometimes every week! We just can't fault their food as it's consistently good and very reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly and service is very good.
Their Vegetarian Pizza is a real favourite of ours, as are the pasta dishes we've tried and of course, Bruschetta No 8 (lots of roasted veg along with traditional tomato, onion and basil, but also fetta cheese), and my husband loves their Seafood Stew, Spaghetti Bolognese and their Vegetable Lasagne.
The decor and atmosphere are good, and there is plenty of parking available outside.
Although the restaurant is big, it's always good to book a table for evening and weekend meals, as it's really popular here.
UPDATE, we tried their lunch special today of beef braised in Guiness with vegetables and mashed potato and at $16 each it is really good value. A rich stew and mash, very tasty, filling, and tummy warming! This also comes in a main meal serve at $29.
They are open every day of the week...
Read moreWent there a few weeks back, food was meh. It was really greasy, overcooked and there was not much Italian food considering it was an Italian restaurant. Waitress was rude and rushed us when we tried to order and was rude to other employees. I saw this young girl who was standing there doing nothing but cleaning and obviously a trainee. I saw the waitress talk to her very rudely and in our time there it didn’t look like she was learning anything. She didn’t have a uniform or apron despite doing messy jobs. Me and my family could also hear the employees very loudly in the back using foul language, which none of us enjoyed. The atmosphere is gloomy and cramped. We were rushed to order and had no space between tables. We couldn’t even choose where to seat and were rushed out the store once finished eating. On a good note it was very clean and they had people constantly keeping things clean (though I think they were mostly trainees). To anyone looking for a job here: I don’t think this place is very beginner friendly as it’s very fast paced. I do hope this will be fixed, I’d love to come back here in honour of my...
