We had dinner last night for a special occasion. The decor is elegant and modern and the drinks menu is wonderful. Cocktails were fabulous as was the wine list. The service sequence was unfortunately lacking, the waitresses did not know the menu well.. We had to remind them to order sides with our tomahawks ( which still came out incorrectly ) our bread plates and knives were still on the table after our mains were finished we were approached for desserts before mains were served and then waited 30 minutes after mains to be asked again. One of our tomahawks was fantastic and cooked perfectly but the other was chewy, alot of sinew and unevenly cooked. Unfortunately they didn't come back to check if everything was ok with the meals or when they took the plate still full of overcooked meat, fat and sinew away. Although they did ask at the bill but it is always to late then and would seem like you wanted a discount... which was not the case we are happy to pay for the meals we order just would like the quality to match the bill.
I have still given 3 stars as it is a pleasant atmosphere especially in a country town and drinks were fabulous as mentioned but I would definitely recommend some training on dining sequence and if possible, section tables to individual waiters to make sure service is followed through. As it wasn't a very busy evening and I can't imagine this would make for a smooth...
Read moreVery disappointed! My husband and I have been going to Rupert’s every 2 to 3 weeks for the past 2 years and for most part have been very happy. We always order the Filet Mignon, 2 sides, sauce and drinks. The waitresses are lovely. Sometimes you might wait over an hour for your mains, but that’s ok. Unfortunately for us, there’s been a menu change and we most probably won’t be back. What use to cost us approx $160 for 2 ppl will now be approx $200 due to having to pay $12 per side dish. The steaks come with mushroom and fried onions. I would say this equates to 1 side dish for some people. I do not like mushrooms or fried onions, so I still don’t have any sides with my steak. My meal now costs me $79 (use to be about $57). And, the sides on offer are pretty basic for $12 each, mash potato, salad, roasted? potatoes, ratatouille, just to name a few. No green veg or potato gratin, which is what I use to order. On our last visit, we both had burgers (due to above mentioned pricing). We both agreed that the burgers were dry and not worth the $30. My husband ate only half of his burger and the manager collected our plates and didn’t even enquire as to why he didn’t finish his burger. I follow Rupert’s on facebook and hopefully there might be another menu update that might entice us back. Until then I’ll take my $3000 per year...
Read moreIf they had told me in advance that the food would take this long, I wouldn’t have ordered in the first place. The restaurant never informed me of the delay, so I kept waiting. Yesterday was my only day off, and I simply couldn’t wait over an hour more. I even took photos with my phone to show that more than an hour had passed, as proof for my complaint. Also, it’s extremely unreasonable to assume that I didn’t understand just because my English isn’t perfect.
This was honestly the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. I waited over an hour for my main, and when it finally came, my medium-well steak was burnt, dry, and completely ruined. The calamari was $25 for only 5 tiny pieces, garnish was wilted, and my Guinness was half-poured.
Worst of all, the service was awful. The waitress was incredibly rude — she laughed with another staff member while I was complaining and never even apologized. I was one of only two tables there, so telling me the kitchen was “too busy” was ridiculous. It honestly felt like they didn’t care at all and I left feeling disrespected.
As someone who’s studied cooking, I can say this was nowhere near a properly cooked steak. I can’t believe this place has a 4.4-star rating. Absolutely terrible — I will never come back and I do not recommend this...
