As I had just brought my wife home from hospital, I thought it would be nice to get take away Chinese for dinner and checked the web and decided on the Kowloon Restaurant, rang and ordered off their website with the total being $58 for the order. Imagine the shock of instead of the price being $58, it was $74 and when I asked the bloke behind the desk why, he just said, ‘it’s a price rise’ and when I told him they had better change their website prices, he didn’t seem to be concerned but, as I had to drive 30k there and 30k back home, it has ensured I won’t be back. However, even worse was the food, which was handed to me in a Woolworths type brown paper bag, which was fine except that when I got home and took the bag into the kitchen, the bottom of the bag had leaked a huge amount of oil from the meals and soaked into the seat cover and then into the leather seat underneath which has made me pretty bloody angry. I would give the food a mark of 5 out of 10 with the reasons being the amount of oil that leaked onto my car seat plus the fact that the meal Itself, Szechuan BBQ Pork was absolutely dripping with oil and really hopeless, full of onion and fillers with the Pork being unlike any pork I have tasted, my wife’s dish, Garlic BBQ Pork, while it was not oily, it was without much, if any, garlic and the meat, if it was pork, was as tough as old boots. The combination fried rice, fair, and the entree, San Choy Bow, was very strange and was simply some mixture with some lettuce leaves in a plastic bag? So, with the travel distance, the problem of how I am going to remove the oil from my vehicle ‘s leather front seat and the, in my opinion, substandard food on top of the massively more expensive price than what is on their website, which I have taken a screen shot of, my experience ensures we never go anywhere near that place again and we will also advise others that there are many other places that are better and don’t run themselves like I saw and experienced last...
Read moreStill worth a visit the food is great and the service is friendly but like most other businesses, portion size has gotten smaller and prices have increased, but if you can afford it, it's worth the money.
Update Nov22:
Sorry for the rant but..... I really like this place, Food still tastes good, the service is prompt, but the price hike and the portion size decrease was a real shock when a lunch special is $15 dine in or $16 for take away, apparently the container cost $1 now!!!! I recall paying $24 for two lunch specials only 6 months or so ago.
Or if you order Satay chicken off Menulog it is $27.30 before delivery, for a full size dish, and $15.60 for a small rice for one person!!! They only went up recently too. I understand that the cost of living has gone up but in general every single thing has gone up, even an ATM transaction that cost $2.50 has now increased to $2.85.
I smell price gouging in all aspects of comerce now just because the media goes on about the "cost of Living" has gone up, and it seems that a modest price increase and the noticable portion sizes being reduced, doesn't leave room to be competitive and has been overlooked, expecially here.
I am reluctant to buy from here as it is too expensive now.. Kawloon you may just price your way out of a few loyal customers from visiting again.please reconsider your value for money as used to be the case.
Last update. Still great food, not oily like some others. Satay chicken & Beef Kwae Taow is very tasty. $12 lunch specials are big, service is fast and friendly, it's a regular of me and mine... Book ahead if you can as...
Read moreOrdered pickup take away lunch specials with sweet and sour, I asked for 1 fried rice to have no meat as I am a pescatarian, guy who answered was very rushed and abrupt, he said rice has no meat, only peas, I said okay, that’s great because I don’t eat meat, he confirmed again, no meat. Picked up order, was charged $1 surcharge for takeaway, it’s not listed on the takeaway menu, the guy who took my money pointed to a sign about the charge, saying it’s because of rising cost of meat. I get home, rice has pork in it! Called up, got the same guy who took my order, he apologised and said he would remake it. Went done again to swap, he told me when I arrived that they don’t do rice without pork, and asked if I wanted steamed rice, I said no, I want fried, that’s why I asked when I ordered, he through his hands up and said, he forgot because it’s New Year! I asked if they would be able to make some for me please, he said no, it’s pre-made, and asked if I wanted steamed rice again?? I don’t know why he asked again, I had no choice!! I had to then wait for them to make my meal again. No apologies for me having to go back there, no offer for even free prawn crackers! Get home, sweet and sour fish was 80% batter, and there was a little bit of sauce, not half enough to cover the fish. The whole experience was very disappointing. I...
