Absolutely atrocious. Our family has always loved coming here since it was the “Pig n Whistle.” The staff have always been super friendly and accommodating and even though the food is very hit and miss, it’s a family tradition for us to celebrate at this venue.
We came a few weeks ago for my birthday and brought in birthday cake which the friendly staff offered to put in the fridge. However, when we asked the staff to swap chips for rice as a side dish to the steak (my partner has dietary requirements), we were told this was not possible. My partner therefore decided to drive to Maccas (who somehow are able to cater for basic dietary requirements 🤷🏻♀️) and brought back two patties so he could eat with our family.
Today we went for lunch again, to celebrate my son being accepted into his choice of high school. Again the ten of us purchased meals and drinks and my partner went to Maccas to pick up some patties. The venue, for some unknown reason, doesn’t serve tea or coffee, so he picked up a coffee for my mum while he was out. This time it was a problem. The waitress let us know that no outside food could be brought in and we informed her of the dietaries not being met last time, which she accepted and everyone carried on with their meal.
Curiously, she decided to come back to our table in the middle of us eating lunch and began a lecture on the point which had already been made.
We asked why we were allowed to bring in birthday cake and patties last time but can’t bring in coffee or patties this time. She informed us it’s because they don’t serve birthday cake, so they allow people to bring it in. We made the point that they also do not serve coffee so why aren’t we allowed to bring that in ourselves?
Our reasoning was completely lost on the staff and the manager, who was horribly ill equipped to “manage” the situation. I realised immediately the asinine rules of the venue were surpassed only by the obtuseness of the manager and decided the best option was to leave our family celebration with food half eaten. Don’t mock the afflicted, as they say.
Very sad to lose our local as we have so many fond memories of celebrations and family get together as...
Read moreA stormy Sunday brought about an impromptu family lunch at this venue. My family and I live local to this venue and we have serviced it for over 15 years, celebrating many birthdays and family gatherings. Today we we chose this venue for lunch. Whilst there were other diners present, there were many vacant tables. We politely requested tables and chairs be added on to accommodate our family, including my grandchildren. We were advised it was not possible because it would interfere with other diners table and fire escapes. We were advised we could have seperate tables on the stage area. Obviously as a family we wanted to be seated together, not separately. We would never encroach on other diners space and their dining experience and would not have requested another table be added if this was the case. We chose to add extra chairs around the table to ensure as a family we could dine together. The venues reluctance to accommodate our family was confusing as a large group it is potentially money in the till. My husband and I had ordered drinks, another family member went to the bar and ordered drinks and meals. At this time respectfully asking again if a table could be added to accommodate our group. At this time the bar staff replied we had been refused service because we had been asked by the bar manager to move our group to the stage area and we had refused to do so. This did not occur. At no time did Rochelle approach our group to discuss the situation. Staff then stated they would call the police! As a mature aged woman, with my family and grandchildren present to be refused service in a venue was extremely offensive! My husband, myself and extended family will never return to this venue again. I have never experienced service like this in all my years. As most people of my age, I have travelled the world and dined in many establisments, fine dining and family style restaurants. The service from the Swan View Tavern today was extremely disappointing. I do not...

Arrived with my family for a Sunday lunch and we asked the bar staff to add a table together and we were told no due to it blocking an emergency exit. We then chose to add extra seats to our available table instead. We proceeded with ordering drinks for our lunch at the bar. When we returned to the bar to order our food, we were told that we are being refused service because we were told to move and we had refused. We shared this news with the rest of our table and whilst finishing our drinks had bar staff come up to us and say we could leave now or have the police called to remove us, continuing to claim that a manager had told us to leave multiple times. Infront of our children and grandchildren and all other patrons in the venue. Not once were we approached by the manager, only bar staff, or told we couldn’t sit where we were, or that we needed to move our party to another area only that we couldn’t add tables and that there were options to sit else where, including outside in the rain with our children.
We have been patrons of this venue for 15 years despite other issues with food and service in the establishments time. This was the most horrific experience, especially considering many in our party have worked in local pubs and can understand the hospitality focused side of this issue. With any attempt to have a conversation and question the reason for our refusal of service we were...
