Dragon Bakery is a definite destination when you fancy a good coffee or a delicious cake. This bakery goes the extra yards to deliver some superb cakes, pies and freshly made snacks that will make you want to go back for more. Conveniently situated on Portobello Road, opposite the Woolworths shopping complex, it has a little outdoor sitting area and plenty of parking opposite. Sometimes they are busy and you may have to wait a short while, but service is always given with a smile. They have a fine selection of popular cakes and some very traditional favourites, and they use real cream! We visited because they were the only bakery we could find open on our route. I ordered a pie and was caught off guard when I was asked if I wanted “regular” or “deep fried”. I was curious so I bought one of each and boy am I glad I did, the deep fried pie was amazing and it wasn’t oily at all, the batter is light and delicious. We also ordered a coffee and custard horn, both were fantastic. The staff are all great and the owner is super friendly, we had a great chat about his journey to perfect the deep fried pies.

The Baker here is either a genius or evil (in the best of ways 😁). All the food we had was delicious! However, I was given the option to have my satay chicken pie "deep fried or regular". I'm far too attached to my life to go deep fried but who knows they might be amazing - they're definitely fun to look at. Fat meaty pies encrusted in thick deep fried batter.
