I’ve eaten at Wise a couple of times before. I have to confess to being a fan. So my review and mark is probably biased. But what a lovely place to be biased about. The setting is just lovely. Is this my favourite outlook in WA? Yes it’s not on the water, but what a view. I’d rather this, any day. Today we shared the croquettes and house bread/oil to start. The croquettes were luscious silky pillows of unctuous cheesy savoury goodness wrapped in the thinnest crust of crunchy crumb. How do they do that without imminent disintegration? They soon disintegrated in our mouths. The bread is properly chewy and, well, breadie. Their own olive oil is tasty. Yum. But here’s a conundrum: how to get the dense acidic balsamic from under the buoyant oil? I’ve decided I need to invent a receptacle. In the meantime, note to all restaurants, please provide 2 separate bowls or, like I have for my various sizes screw and bolts, a compartment divided in half. Surely that’s possible? Anywayyyyyuh …
“The boss” was feeing a bit off, so we had just one main, which she tasted: the grilled swordfish with crab reduction and shellfish. Separately these were great but, sadly, on this occasion the delicious and concentrated crab broth somewhat overpowered the beautifully cooked swordfish which swam therein. Such a shame. I suggested, when asked, that the sauce be served on the side. Or the fish be held up above the sauce somehow for dipping? My constructive comments were well received by Peter (who’s service was splendid) who conveyed them to chef. Apparently, after initial spluttering of dismay, chef tasted said broth and conceded that I might have a point. So thank you for listening. Well done. I’m sure it will be top notch next time, whatever solution is devised.
The mango sorbet was a steal at $4. The others were what you’d expect: not cheap but fair price for the location, service and effort required.
We enjoyed the “bead” sparkly. But Finally treat yourself on the way out and buy some sea urchin Shiraz or Cab Merlot. My “go to” from down here, and surely up there amongst best value reds from...
Read moreSo far one of the most casual yet fine dining I've ever visited. We booked tables for 20 and process was done hastily. As we arrived into the restaurant, the waiter greeted us with a very comforting manner and theh tend to us in our chairs and distributed to us, the menu, very quickly yet with manner. Spoons and fork were already prepared and we were serviced with a very gentle, yet chop chop manner as they try to get our dishes as quick and fine as possible. As we wait foe the food, the head waiter regular tend to our table to check and ask if everything's alright and orders were checked in verh tense detail to prevent miscommunication.
About 15-20 minutes later all food began to be served and it was very well served in an orderly manner as everyone who orders the same dish were served at the same time. The rest of the food were then fullt served in a very quick, yet gentle manner by the waiters and waitresses. Food arrangement were wonderful and they made everything looked very delicious as our mouths began to be drawn by the spoon. However, it really did NOT stop there because as everyone tasted their food, there was NO SINGLE people who complaint about their dish even though some of them ordered the wrong dish as they read the menu wrong. NONE of us took each scoop of the dishes with a disappointing face as we kept eating while having a very comfortable conversation.
All drinks were served very quickly and finely and even though there were still plenty of kids around the restaurant, the atmosphere was still very quiet and luxury. They were able to successfully create a very supportive environment as waiter regularly tend to our table to ask about the dishes and drinks as if they really care about the quality of their food more than their "busy-ness". 10/10 I would recommend to everyone to come to this fine dining restaurant in the middle of chillful nowhere and I would...
Read moreWe recently booked a chalet to spend a nice weekend unwinding in the countryside.... and we had high hopes that this would be a nice place to do it. Unfortuntately the very basic and rustic facilities were not what we expecting.||||Sadly the website for the accommodation was under construction so we were unable to see what we were getting ourselves into. We booked "the Studio" and were told that there would be no TV's or radio's so as to enjoy the serenity. On arrival we found our chalet was built less than 5m away from the neighbouring chalet where around 12 people, including children, were accommodated. Not so serene and not good for an early morning sleep in......||||The accommodation itself was draughty, dusty and very basic (complete with a large plastic box to store food to keep it safe from critters?!). Even the finishings were basic - mistmatched, frayed, faded curtains, ugly mismatched linen, old dry horrible towels, and rickety old furniture. The bathroom wasn't that nice either!||||Unfortunately the chalets were also rickety - the windows didn't quite close, the whirly bird on the roof rattled and squealed the whole night, the front door couldn't be locked from the inside, the smoke detector had no batteries (not so comforting with a wood fire) and the outdoor area had no lighting so arriving in the dark was frightening and challenging.||||Overall, for $130 per night we were very disappointed. When we mentioned the noisy whirlybird on checkout we got "oh really?" as a response and so didn't bother passing on any other feedback. I think if you were attending a wedding here then fine, but with so many other choices available, I'd skip this place and try something else. Unless of course you fancy feeling like you are on...
