Ariel’s Balgownie — Restaurant in Wollongong City Council

Disappointing service. We drove from Shellharbour to have a coffee and was met with a less than welcoming experience. First words that were spoken by was “Kitchen closes in 10 minutes.” No hello, no welcome. We had two babies and were told you can only sit outside on the cold winters day as we’ve closed off half the cafe, presumably so they could close asap. When I went to get the high chairs I was again met with “You can’t sit in here, we’ve closed this section.” Even though I was just helping myself to high chairs to take out side. Finally when ordering we were told we’d be served in paper cups, again presumably so they didn’t have to wash the crockery and close asap. We arrived 45 minutes prior to the advertised closing time. I visited this cafe a few months ago for the first time. Food was good, but it took 45 minutes for it to arrive. The cafe was not busy, either. I went back various times for coffee, and each and every time I have visited I have waited 15 minutes for a takeaway. On each of those occasions, there was a maximum of 4 people getting a coffee, sometimes there was only two. The service is exceptionally slow. The women serving and making the coffees are too busy in conversation with themselves and it Is impacting their delivery. I discussed this with some locals who have frequented the store and they too, expressed their disappointment with long wait times for a simple coffee order. Not good enough. One of the best cafes in Australia, no joke. They make the best coffee that I've ever had, their food is top notch, and the desserts are to die for. Not to mention how great the menu is, those soufle pancakes, man, they never disappoint. The moment you walk in, you can feel how much passion and care the owners have for this cafe. They care for your experience, and want to consistently deliver the best service that they can.
