Before now I have only ever used Google reviews to leave positive comments. Balgownie Hotel has stirred something in me that before tonight lay dormant. I am leaving a bad review. You may be asking “what could have possibly rattled this man so much that he has had to change his personal Google review policy?”.

I’ll begin with the first problem: The wait. At a pub, I have never expected to wait longer than 20 minutes for my food. Balgownie Hotel had me wait 53 minutes. I never in my life thought I’d have to endure such hardship. The worst part of it was having to see patrons who had ordered after us, belonging to large groups, receive their food before us. The envy I had felt is indescribable.

Onto the second problem: The food. I’m not even going to bother going into detail with this issue, as I’m sure you’re wise enough to piece it together, and frankly I have lost enough of my time to Balgownie already.

As a final note, I feel it is necessary to make it clear that I do not cast sole blame upon the waiting service nor the kitchen staff. I am certain that both the wait and the food were the way they were due to illogical constraints put upon the staff and the quality of the produce which the kitchen has been provided. This is no doubt the responsibility of senseless management.

Thank you for your patience and I hope you find this review helpful and maybe even constructive if you happen to be a Balgownie...

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I recently hosted a baby shower at Balgownie Hotel, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! The space itself was beautiful and perfectly suited for such a special occasion, but what made it exceptional was the amazing staff—especially Jess.

From the very beginning, Jess was an absolute superstar. She was incredibly helpful during the planning process, answering all my questions and ensuring that every detail was thought through. On the day of the event, she went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. Her attention to detail and warm, friendly demeanor made both me and my guests feel so cared for.

Everyone raved about the ambiance, the setup, and how smoothly everything went—this was all thanks to Jess and the incredible team at Balgownie Hotel. If you’re looking for a venue that combines stunning aesthetics with top-notch service, this is the place to go. I couldn’t recommend it more highly!

Thank you, Jess, and the team for helping create such a...

I hate leaving negative reviews particularly for local places but unfortunately, it was a really disappointing lunch today at Bally Hotel. The cocktail that was nearly $20 was like trying to knock back cough syrup. Ordering the prawn pasta and chicken parmi - The sauce in the pasta was lukewarm and clearly from a bottle/can, pasta was overcooked as well sprinkled with a few chewy frozen prawns. The parmi was also not their best. With the public holiday surcharge wracking up $90 for a disappointing lunch. However atmosphere and the pub itself is still great. Good for kids and for a chill time. Hopefully they can sort the food...

What a cool pub, hidden away up near the Escapement! I never knew Balgownie had such a great mountain village vibe to it and this pub has the same feeling too. We were there on Anzac Day, with its 2up games, so the place was packed and buzzing. I've now returned on another sunny afternoon and had a great meal... all cooked to perfection and with very tasty sauces and gravies! 😋👌 We were also lucky enough to be seated next to their double sided fireplace... prefect for a very chilly Sunday afternoon! 🤗

The newly upgraded Bally Hotel bistro is on point. Nfc or qr code activated beacons at the tables mean you can order and pay for food and drinks without leaving the comfort of your booth or stool! Had the schnitty which was crispy, juicy and piping hot. The pepper sauce was perfect. At $20 for the schnitty, it's as steep as brokers road, but thats Bally prices.

For $12.50 for a kids meal I was pretty mortified by the size of the burger. Both my kids were still hungry afterwards. The vibe of the place was cute and rustic but the prices were pretty bad
