As I write so many reviews on Google, I though I should use Google to find somewhere to go.
Yesterday I found myself in the Kanahooka area in the Illawarra. This older suburb is expanding and changing with development. Nearby is Brownsville, also changing but still has a feel of the village it once was surrounded by rural land.
I ended up at the Kerma Cafe in a quiet and old fashioned local shopping precinct. It had received good reviews. The good reviews are deserved however I will make some comments.
Located next to an op shop, the cafe has a few tables outside and a clean but small inside area. After I ordered I intended sit inside however the music was loud and jarring so I slipped outside. That was much better.
My usual test of ordering a macchiato lead to receiving a glass which showed all the right layers for a macchiato. It was the right size. While having a satisfying flavour and not bitter, I could only give it 7/10 which with the flood review translated to the four stars.
I ordered a mushroom bruschetta. I knew it came with a poached egg and grilled halloumi. As you can see from the attached pic, the bruschetta is a generous portion with two eggs. I wonder if this needs to renamed? I know it sounds odd to complain of a generous portion! It was tasty and well presented but much more than a straight mushroom bruschetta.
The staff are pleasant and attentive. The service outside quick.
There are so many unrecognised little cafes in local communities that are worth trying. This is what I try to do when travelling. Krema Cafe...

Food was good, I won’t be paying that again tho.I was in there 3 weeks ago and asked for bacon and egg, lady said it comes with cheese and onion. Ok. It’s was 10 bucks. 20percent increase now and no onion. Then it’s don’t leave a review unless it’s a good one. It doesn’t work like that. 9 dollars is the going rate for a...
Read moreI discovered this cafe recently when they were promoted on social media by one of my favourite bakers who supply their croissants (incredible). I couldn’t believe I’d stopped at the shops a hundred times and overlooked this cafe so I decided to stop in this morning and pick up a coffee and a biscoff slice. Oh. My. Goodness. The biscoff slice is a real smash! It’ll be hard to resist the temptation not to return daily to grab one. Support local business and pick up a coffee and pastry if...
