If you like authentic Indian food that is well spiced and cooked to the right tenderness, this is the place.
While doing a day walk in Woy Woy, my wife and I chanced upon this place which is just around the corner from the Woy Woy train station.
We tried the tandoori chicken which was served on a sizzling hot plate which kept the chicken heated while we ate. Chicken was tender on the inside while lightly crusted with well balanced tandoori spice on the outside.
We also had the Goat Goan Xacuti accompanied by a couple of plain Naan bread. The goat was slow cooked to tenderness in the thick spicy curry sauce. We love the heat in our curry and asked for extra hot. The cook did not hold back which is what we wanted. You can go for mild if the heat is not for you. Either way, the sauce will complement the goat and the Naan just as well.
The owner, Nelson, and his wife (sorry cannot remember her name) served us. Pleasant couple.
BTW, this place has a string of awards as one of the best Indian restaurant around.
Sorry for the long commentary but this place deserves my time writing this.
If you are from Sydney or any where else, go spend a day in beautiful Woy Woy and try out...
Read moreI have been to many restaurants before but I must say that nothing beats Spices 29. The food, drinks, service and the ambience are all top- notch. I went there with our kids for a birthday celebration and the staff was very friendly and ensured we had a lovely time. would recommend Spices 29 any given day to anyone. We especially enjoyed the Garlic Lamb, Palak Paneer and the kids loved the Mango Prawns. I must say that the Spinach and Cheese Naans were lovely and probably the softest I have ever had. We also tried the Paan ice cream which was very delicate and interesting in flavour. It reminded of the time I had in India when I used to enjoy eating Paan. The owner, Nelson, was very friendly and he visited on the table especially to ensure we were comfortable and also gave us a talk on the amazing artworks in the restaurant. We had gone to the restaurant for the first time after our friend’s recommendation. The restaurant was super busy as it was a Friday night but I must say that food and service were great. I am not surprised that the restaurant is awarded as the best restaurant and has so many awards. It was my first visit but definitely not last! Kudos...
Read moreHands down easily one of THE best Goan / Indian restaurants we've had the pleasure of visiting. Each and every dish was handcrafted to perfection, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable.
We were a party of 6 (+1 infant) and had the below dishes for lunch - entrees - chatpata squid, veg galouti kebab, kerala fried fish (barra), mince lamb seekh kebab (I'm salivating again just writing this!) Mains - fried pomfret, Goan style prawn curry, chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, bhindi do pyaza, assortment of naans & rice dessert - we couldn't make it to desserts because our tummies were wayyy too happy!
Great service, ambience and amazing value for money (cost per head $47 approx incl drinks); didn't think it was possible to have such an amazing selection of Goan dishes outside Goa, let alone outside India. They know their food and how to bring out the best and freshest of Goa's flavours. A hidden gem in Woy Woy that all of Australia deserves to treat their taste buds to! I'm coming back...
