Chow’s Table.
Owned by Head Chef Mal Chow, it is an acclaimed restaurant with innovative modern Chinese fusion interpretation of classic Asian dishes.
Located near House of Cards and Gabriel Chocolate (tip, do a chocolate tasting before your meal), Chow’s table has a welcoming, well lit ambience. Service is prompt, friendly.
The dishes are designed to be shared. Which is the way many Asian diners would have their meals. You order 3 small entree and 3 mains out of the list for the whole table. There is no option to split the order(s) to try everything on the menu, although you can add additional dishes if you need to.
Can’t decide what to order? Ask your waitress. They’re very familiar with the menu. Or check out their instagram for inspiration.
The squid toast is a highlight. Crisp, yet not oily. A crunchy morsel of sesame, seafood filling and toast. One of the best we have had. Steak tartare was also perfectly done. Fresh and everything just perfect together. French yet instead of bread, there is a Chinese doughnut that works surprisingly well. Radish cake was crisp on the outside, gooey on the inside. The home chef in me prefers less flour and more radish but that is perhaps a subjective matter. It goes without saying that Entree was a highlight. Dishes are however, small.
Mains. There is a bowl of fluffy, white rice to share. So you won’t be hungry. The Ma Po tofu. It’s a huge bowl. The tofu is made locally and so very melt in your mouth. Almost to-fu fa in consistency. The Schezuan peppercorn however gives it a kick. If you’re not familiar with this, you have been warned. Prawn laksa. A light, almost tempura batter with a large, single prawn. But please de-vein them in the future! Why go to the effect of removing half the shell (head/tail are intact) and not removing the vein? Laksa broth was light and fragrant. Pork belly mostly melt in your mouth. Though we thought the pork hadn’t quite fully integrated the flavours of the broth.
I suggest pairing dishes with the Beers on offer. It is a small but well curated list. My taste buds were somewhat overwhelmed with the barrage of peppercorns and flavours that wine would have been a difficult order.
We left very, very full. And satisfied.
High chair and child friendly ; open grass right outside. And Gabriel’s offer a promising ice-cream or chocolate...
Read moreBooked over a month in advance for a party of 5. Arrived and only 2 other tables were occupied. Ordered entrees and mains at the same time 15mins after arriving. We were there for a Birthday lunch and had a private driver drop us off for a 1hr and 45min lunch. We waited 30mins for our entrees, which were lovely. It went downhill from there; 45 minutes later we asked how much longer our mains would be, as our driver was coming in 20mins to pick us up, and we were hungry at this point and concerned that we would be late to our next appointment. We were advised that our food was being "plated up now". After another 10mins, the more senior waitress came over and asked us why we didn't mention that we had to be somewhere, as our mains were still at least 10mins away. They were basically trying to shift the blame onto us, saying that upon arrival (1hr and 35mins earlier) we should have told them we were on a time frame. The restaurant at this point was at 30% capacity. We pointed out to the waitress that we pre booked, so they knew we were coming and knew how many tables were full, and waiting over 40mins after entrees for mains for 5 people is not reasonable. There was no apology or honesty about what the hold up was, we were literally advised that we should have been upfront that we "were in a hurry". This argument does not stack up, as most bookings now at any restaurant are are 90mins max. They offered us our food in takeaway containers to eat in the car (little difficult with no cutlery and they are all share plates). They also asked us to settle the bill PRIOR to even getting our mains to 'save time'. We were not sure if the mains would ever turn up, so we declined that offer. It was very disappointing, as this was a weekend away to enjoy a friend's birthday, and although the ambience of the restaurant was lovely and the setting gorgeous, this has turned us all off from...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of having lunch at Chow's Table today and it was such a TREAT!!! We are so used to the high quality Chinese cuisine from Hong Kong and this place really hit the spot. The interior is modern with a very chill vibe. Indoor + outdoor tables available and some guests brought their dogs and sat outside.
The team of ladies provided a great & friendly service + we love their wicked sense of humour (good to have a laugh esp during a pandemic!!). Now let's talk about the food, OMG every dish was finger licking GOOD!!! Starters we had pork & chive dumplings, Albany Akoya & Tofu shrimp sambal - to die for! We knew we were in for a treat when the starters were this yummy. The main courses were Shark Bay Tiger prawns with an authentic sweet & sour sauce (unlike most Chinese restaurants with a fake S&S sauce!! this is def the real deal!). The roast duck was amazing! We also had the beef rum cap w baby king oyster mushroom in black bean sauce, we thought the sauce was a bit over powering for the beef but it suited the mushroom but it still tasted good though.
We were so stuffed at this point but felt we couldn't leave without trying the dessert. THANK Goodness we did! The elderflower custard, black sesame meringue was AMAZING!!!!
We love love this place and it's def worth a drive to visit here. Next to Chow's Table there's House of Cards winery bar & Gabriel Chocolate...this spot is a MUST VISIT!!!
Before we left Chow's Table, we walked around to the side kitchen window to say a BIG thank you and well done to all the chefs!! Chow's Table is def by far the BEST Chinese cuisine we had in Perth and we are very picky eaters. Our kid who's a mini food critic gave this place 11 out of 10 and seriously he is very hard to please.
Cant wait until our next visit here! Happy Xmas and...
