Karnunt — Restaurant in Gemeinde Hainburg an der Donau

Just perfect We did not expect anything special, just an acceptable dinner with some vegetarian options. Something that can be hard to find in the Austrian countryside where sausage is still considered to be "no meat" (and sometimes I think this is true). One has to pass through the smokers section of the restaurant, what is annoying for many who dont want to be bothered by cigarette smoke when about to dine, but this remains an Austrian/German speciality. Ricicolous. The service is super friendly and attentive and not too attentive at the same time. perfect balance. The wine list is affordable and the three I tasted were all well selected. The menu looks very traditional Austrian but the kitchen gives it a wonderful spin. The cook definitely was paying a lot of attention. The meat was on spot, the prawns were perfect. The vegetables heavenly spiced. The toasted baguette was stil warm, had the perfect crunch and was still nicely soft inside.

This all said for a 55 Euro dinner for 2. It was worth more than that, but dont expect a Michelin kitchen. It was really good, nothing fancy, far away...

Wonderful and friendly service. The food was delicious. The starter of baked goat’s cheese on apple with pine nuts and balsamic vinegar was so good. Served with lightly roasted french bread, I could have eaten only that and been satisfied. Wonderful mix of flavors. The main dish was a grill platter and the portion size was big enough for two. The mix of chicken, pork and beef, and the vegetables were all perfectly grilled. Tender meat and crisp vegetables were exactly what I had hoped for. The apple strudel was also worth the small wait. Google led us to this unusual place and we are not sorry for that. The location and exterior is unassuming, but the interior and the terrace is reasonable. Service was very helpful, polite and not intrusive. The food was good and spices pleasant.
