This was going to be a glowing review of one of those little gems that you come across once in a blue moon. As you will see if you read on, all is not as it seems.||We arrived with our friends (2 couples) for a 1 night stay at this quaint restaurant cum lodging, up a quiet valley around 3 km from Lech. We had booked a week in Lech at a small pension, however we couldn't have the first night there, hence the booking at the Auerhahn. We were met by the owner Hannes, who was very convivial & showed us our rooms. The rooms were small but warm & comfortable with shared facilities, no more or less than we expected. We decided to have a couple of drinks & were also given some nibbles which were welcome, we then went for a lovely walk & all agreed that this place was a find. We decided to have dinner at the Auerhahn, noting that the wine list was very much on the pricey side, (starting at 46 euro with no house wine option) we had a tasty meal with a bottle of wine, Hannes also gave us free desserts & another bottle of wine, also snapps to finish, we were delighted. Breakfast the following day was plentiful & tasty, as it was snowing we lingered & finally said we needed to book in to our pension in Lech & would need to get the bus. Much to our surprise Hannes insisted on lending us his car to get there, an act of generosity that none of us had ever experienced before. We duly moved our luggage to Lech & returned to thank Hannes & his staff for their hospitality, promising to return later in the week with some friends who were also staying in Lech.||We returned towards the end of the week for a drink & to say thanks once again, unfortunately our friends couldn't make it. Hannes asked if we were eating, we said we weren't sure as we on a budget, he replied don't worry about that, it is not all about the money. We decided to stay, we were given a starter of salad leaves & an "amuse bouche" which we hadn't ordered, with a bottle of wine, we had a main course which was tasty & another bottle of wine. We then decided it was time to leave before the bill got out of hand, we asked for the bill & explained that we needed to catch the next bus, Hannes said don't worry about that, the bus runs every hour, he then proceeded to bring out a selection of Snapps & Whiskey & started pouring. We did not really want to drink spirits, but he was quite insistent, in the meantime another bottle of wine arrived unordered followed by a cheeseboard & a bottle of dessert wine, all unordered. Finally we got him to order us a taxi to return to Lech. ||Then came the sting, 37.60 for a bowl of salad for 4, 1 bottle of wine 46.00, 2 bottles wine (1 unordered) @56.00, 1 small bottle dessert wine (unordered) @ 50.00. We were speechless, this man who had been so friendly & accommodating had pulled us in hook, line & sinker, a total of 369.30 for a meal for 4. We left without challenging it & decided to put it down to experience, it was such a shame as I was planning on taking a party of fisherman to this place in the summer, I have now decided I cannot trust this person. Incidentally, we had a better meal the following night at the Café Fritz in Lech, total 4 people, 3 courses with wine 130.00 euro, I would go there...

Read moreLoved staying at this place. Clean, comfortable rooms and wonderful hosts who were very friendly and attentive. Prices were fair. This place is full of character and they said the building was 350 years old. Great breakfasts every morning. Though we didn't opt for half-pension, we should have as we ended up coming back for multiple dinners after not finding what we were looking for in Lech, and we were never disappointed. We would go back to this place without reservation. Perfectly located in a beautiful setting. We skied in and skied out (get some speed and you'll not have to pole) every day to/from lifts with no-lines... you won't find that staying...
