Having seen the excellent reviews on booking.com, I booked Rosi's as an alternative to the central Kitzbuehel hotels. It was a stopover before flying back from Munich having driven all day through the Dolomites so a quiet location, with easy parking and food were the draw.||I knew it was up a hill and was drawn to the view but didn't realise it was so far up and the road in places was one car wide (and in our 4 trips up/down we always met cars/van/farm vehicles at awkward places), the road is also very warn in places.||What wasn't my mistake was that it transpires that even though this place is famous for its food, the kitchen is shut on a Monday and this is neither made clear on booking.com nor on the hotel web site which I did check out though isn't in English. So after driving all day up arduous hills we had to go back down to Kitzbuehel to get some food (Rosi recommended a restaurant half way down the hill but once you are there, you may as well carry on into town where there is a better choice).||The hotel even rang us at 1730 but didn't tell us that food wasn't available.||I slept OK and the room was clean though not especially warm (though absolutely nothing like as swish as the photos on booking.com and Tripadvisor rather led us to believe - these look like premium hotel rooms with a slightly rustic twist, ours was very rustic with a slightly premium twist) so was intending to give it the benefit of the doubt.||However, breakfast changed that. Hotel breakfasts are usually the stuff dreams are made of but this one was more of a nightmare.||We'd noticed a few flies in our room and a swatter was helpfully provided but they didn't prove too much of an issue. The breakfast buffet was absolutely swarming with them and pretty much everything apart from some cheese was not covered up. Maybe I am being fussy but it doesn't make me want to eat food that's had flies on it. Even when I'd managed to slice some bread from the middle of a loaf that had been partly covered by a towel, we still got attacked by flies. The hot chocolate that had been made for me soon had one inside the cup and they just wouldn't leave us alone. The waitress offered me a choice of egg dishes and while waiting for this to come we decided to leg it and go and sit outside on the terrace. When she came back in I advised here where we had relocated to and she said it wasn't allowed as it was closed - so a hotel with a terrace with tables and chairs and a stunning view and you aren't allowed to sit out which is weird at the best of times but when it means fewer flies it's down right bizarre! I explained the situation and she was OK but we shouldn't have to have had a discussion about it. There were still some flies but outside not as many. The egg dish (2 fried eggs with ham and chives) was nice. Worth noting that 2 other couples were eating outside a few minutes later...||On reflection we were lucky that the restaurant had been closed the night before as it would have been just as fly infested.||On departure we explained the flies were a bit of an issue and the receptionist said it's been a bad year for them and they can't do much about it as it's the countryside - well I've spent a lot of time in Austrian countryside and never seen this before but the whiff of manure from the car park area might have something to do with it.||On another note, Rosi doesn't allow parking in front of the hotel, not even for unloading according to the 'Parking Verboten' sign (most hotels have a sign that says for loading/unloading only) so you have to man handle your luggage (for us that was 2 large case) from the car park across the road (steps and gradient to contend with). She's OK with parking her own car in front of the hotel though!||And finally there was loud music coming from the bar until 1030 pm.||In a town with numerous hotels to choose from, you are better off being in town and looking up at the hills.||I will put this down to experience and will have to take suspiciously good reviews with a pinch of salt from now on. ||(the free Wifi was incredibly fast - up a mountain and it's 100 times quicker than my EE...

Read moreWe were taken to Rosi's by local friends who were excited to return there after many years. Whilst the place is undoubtedly beautiful and spectacularly positioned, it is now seemingly a 'destination' for a certain clientele who are made to feel welcome - and the rest of us are a minor inconvenience.
The table - We were welcomed by Rosi at the door and led to the back room - it was nice enough BUT the music from the party in the adjacent room for the entire evening meant that conversation at our table was almost impossible (we were furthest from it) and when the door opened (as it did every few minutes for party guests to come and go in a continuous stream), it was impossible to converse. All evening.
Service - aperitif/drinks order arrived after the starter. Main meals appeared before starters had been cleared away. Request for more cutlery was ignored so we had to get it ourselves. Wine order finally taken as we were finishing the mains. Water arrived after we had finished. Three waiters asked if everything was ok after the meal. Could have done with seeing them earlier.
Food - just seemed imbalanced. Some of the dishes were great - the soup & prawn starters and salmon main. The duck main dish was overcooked, dry and twice the size of any other main; way too large to get through. The cream/veal stew was tiny by comparison.
We paid then had to get our own coats as there was no eye contact from the...
