Waldrast Natur Resort — Restaurant in Matrei am Brenner

Fantastic place! So remote and calm, just what we needed. The owners, restaurant staff (many of them) and house keeping ladies are very kind. The rooms are basic, clean, daily kept and generally just what you expect from a hotel in a former monestary (very nice organic bathroom soaps and lotion). There is an active church for whoever is interested. Breakfast is local, homemade and very tasty. Food is available throughout the day and our dinner was different and delicious each evening (fully adapted to vegetarians) . Restaurant (main hall, secondary and a beautiful hunters hut) was usually full and lively, which felt really nice. The hotel sets in a remote location, 1640 metres high, and more than 1000 meters higher than the valley it sits above. Though access is very easy with the car, even in winter (might not be during a snow blizzard). The scenery around us breathtaking, just pure and majestic nature, with mountain peaks all around. There are many trails in summer. As for winter, not too many, but it's still possible and a wonderful experience to hike (even higher) in snow. Everyone needs to know about this place!! The location is absolutely stunning and not overly crowded. The monastery and the mountains provide a serene and spiritual atmosphere. My wife and I left at 4am to reach the peak at Serles for sunrise. This is a must-do for nature enthusiasts. when we reached the bottom, we were rejuvenated by excellent beer, coffee and a large, delicious authentic meal with excellent service and fair prices. Dopo aver mangiato in questo posto , mi sono fermato con il mio amico Renato a dormire in questo ex convento che è il più alto d'Europa. La stanza che ci hanno dato era molto ampia.e confortevole. ....due letti con immancabili piumini stile Austriaco , il bagno era diviso tra doccia e lavabo e Water , comunque pulito . Nella stanza c'era anche una poltrona elettrica per farsi il massaggio , ottima idea dopo una faticosa e rigenerante camminata . La vista dalla finestra è impagabile . il silenzio di notte è quasi surreale, sembra proprio di essere in un monastero. Nell'interno inserita nel retro c'è una chiesa stupenda in stile gotico di Maria Waldrast che deve essere famosa perché è piena di ringraziamenti votivi appesi sui muri . Nell'esterno c'è una fontana di acqua super frequentata da persone con bottiglie e taniche che vengono a riempirle in quanto sembra che sia un'acqua molto buona .....ci sono anche le analisi chimiche appese . Il prezzo della stanza è onesto , circa 92 euro in due ...la colazione servita al mattino è super. ..c'è di tutto , praticamente se si vuole è un pranzo , con tutta roba di qualità che non sto ad elencare da quanta è. Il servizio è Self Services, potete prendere quello e quanto volete , veramente bravi . Si possono acquistare souvenir su una stanza esterna ....a parte i soliti santini e coltellini, consiglio l'amaro e un liquore digestivo fatto dalle Suore , l'ho assaggiato ...e preso , veramente buono .
