das Fritz — Restaurant in Weiden am See

The food is very good, the service is very bad! Concerning the food and the view: Visuals and qualities come together, combined into a perfect match. Concerning the service: We booked a table for tree persons (2 days before), but once there, we received a table for two, an extra chair had to be added, and this position was extreemly uncomfortable. There was no much space even being in a "regular" sitting. Secondly, I had a feeling that a waiter was lecturing me. I think, there is much more room for an improvement. Some tactfulness in treating the customers is urgently needed. However, an overall impression was positive for this first time.

P.S. The second visit, and the service is even worse. We booked a table and were seated quite quickly, but had to wait about 20 minutes just for the menu. Once we had the menu and ordered our dishes, a box with bread and spreads was offered as a first course. We waited another 20-25 minutes for it (This is a matter of minutes, if not seconds, to bring it, because it probably stands ready in the kitchen since it is a standard offered to everyone!), once it arrived, the main dish came just after one minute, so we had to leave the first course, and it was a mess of different dishes... Total disaster. One just doesn't expect this level of service in such a nice and upscale place. The staff is mostly hungarian and some of the even don't speak german. So if you need something, they are not bothered. After we ordered a dessert, I was re-asked two times about my choice, the waitress could't memorise it and didn't bother to write it down, even though I and my spouse ordered completely the same things. Is it normal?...

One of the Worst Dining Experiences I've Ever Had

I had high hopes for Das Fritz in Austria, but unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had.

We were seated on the terrace, which had no ventilation whatsoever—it was absolutely steaming hot. To make things worse, the moment our food arrived, we were swarmed by at least 20 flies. It was truly unbearable!!

Desperate for some relief, we asked to move inside. Our waiter, Ákos, laughed at us and said, “The flies will join you inside too.” That alone would have been unprofessional, but it didn’t stop there. He didn’t even help us move our plates—we had to carry everything ourselves. Later, as the flies did in fact follow us indoors, he passed by mocking us again.

At the end of the meal, we decided not to leave a tip given the appalling service. Ákos confronted us, asking “Why??” as if he was surprised. When we said we simply weren’t leaving one, he threw the paid invoice onto our table in frustration.

And the food? Even without the flies and poor service, it was terrible. Bland, overpriced, and definitely not worth the hassle.

To top it all off, the lake the restaurant is located next to has completely brown water, honestly resembling sewage. Any notion of enjoying a scenic lakeside meal was quickly crushed by the grimy surroundings.

Between the suffocating heat, the fly infestation, the rude and mocking service, the awful food, and the dirty-looking lake, I would strongly advise avoiding Das Fritz altogether. There are far better places to spend your time and...

Me and my family we booked the table something like one-two months before our visit. We wanted to have a breakfast, it begins at 09:00 and at 09:05 we were there. The reseptionist told us we are going to get our table on the first floor. We went to the first floor and were shocked. There was no buffet there, the tables were bar tables (we were with a child), there were no music, almost no people. It would be somehow a little better, if the tables were by the window. But no, it was in a dark corner and the rest of the room was closed. We went back and asked, if we can have a proper table. Reseptionist told, that there is a lift, so we can drive to buffet with a lift every time we need something or we can sit outside (it was windy and rainy) (??!!). So we told we are leaving. Such a bad service, totally rude. They told they don't have enough place inside because of the weather and the people are getting places "first reserved, first served". Realy? One-two months is not enough to get a normal place to seat? Total dissapointment. I visited das Fritz a couple of times before and was always happy with service, but today it just one of the worst...
