We stayed at Pfefferbauer for 6 nights in apartment 1 in the main house. Please note there are two houses- the main house has a restaurant and is higher up the hill with a fantastic view over the lake. The second house also looks to a high standard but is not as high up the hill. We have previously stayed in some of the big names hotels in town, and we way preferred Pfefferbauer.||The value of the hotel is second to none- considering how amazing the view is, the hotel is a fraction of the price of the hotels in town. ||Apartment 1 was very spacious, with one bedroom however it did also have a pull out sofa bed so could fit 4, and had two balconys each with fantastic views of the lake. It was great relaxing on the balcony - there is a small table and chairs which are comfortable.|The apartment's decor was done up to a high standard- modern Austrian style but with hints of traditional decoration, and was very clean. |We opted for an apartment so we could use the small kitchen which was equipped with all the basics- fridge/freezer, kettle, oven etc. ||A few evenings we booked a table in their restaurant where we always got a table overlooking the lake.|The food is fantastic- classic homemade Austrian style. Make sure you ask for the specials as these are always interesting- the rump steak was particularly superb.||This hotel is family run. The family and the staff are all very friendly, and all very helpful. In particular Claudia is very nice and can speak very good English. |As the hotel is set up on a hill, a car is recommended as then it is just a short drive into Zell am See centre. There is also huge amounts to explore in the surrounding area which is much easier to reach with a car.|The hotel provides each guest with a free summer card which is great as it gives free entry into all the local attractions. This also saves huge amounts on the key cable cars. |We are particularly in to hiking, though not advanced this area seems much better than others. There are many well sign posted walking routes, some which start near the hotel, but many in the area all for...

Read moreWe had the most amazing view out of our balcony window and it changed every day depending on the weather to show us another magical perspective. ||It was immaculately clean and the whole hotel was decorated to a high standard, reflecting their charming rustic lifestyle with an elegant polish. ||The staff were all lovely.||The breakfast and dinner were both incredible. The steak was the best I’ve ever tasted (they had killed and matured the beef themselves) and my husband was astounded by the goulash. Both the pancakes and apple slices for dessert were amazing!||Breakfast is presented beautifully, you are given a gorgeous continental feast. You can also order eggs cooked in your preferred way. On Christmas morning we were also given prosecco and on Christmas Eve a plate of cookies were left for us in our room. These small touches really make this place special!||We did not hire a car, it would have been nearly impossible to walk up and down at this time of the year, due to the snow and ice; the road is incredibly steep and winding with no path. Our lack of car meant we got taxis to town and back, which was relatively easy to do. Every taxi we got in one the driver gave us a card, so it was fine with lots of choices. There is also a taxi company that give slightly better rates to hotel guests (ask at reception). |Just practice your pronunciation of the hotel name before you ring any taxis! The taxis cost between €10-€16 (Christmas fee) one way, which does start to rack up, but we just planned carefully so that we only made one return journey a day. The food is so good, there is no need to eat out in town every night. ||Despite the additional taxi cost the view and hotel itself made it more than worthwhile and we will definitely be back!||What a magical Christmas and start to...
