Bottom line…..NOT WORTH IT!
Visiting, we asked a lot of locals where they would go for a special dinner. Many different restaurants were named, but a lot of people suggested the Stoned Crab restaurant, so we gave it a try.
OUTSIDE:
The exterior was open and beautiful, and its proximity to the water added to the look of the building
INSIDE
Open air, so no AC. This probably would’ve been OK because it did have fans, but several of the fans did not work, so it was quite warm, and brought a new definition to “a hot meal”.
MENU
It seemed plentiful, however, the entire menu was written on a chalkboard that you had to take a picture of unless you had a photographic memory. One of the challenges with that particular chalkboard was that some of the items were erased and very faint.
SERVICE
Other than a busboy, whose attention we were able to get from time to time, the staff was not attentive. Our server sat us down and disappeared. She only showed up to ask if we were ready to place an order after trying to figure out the menu on our phones from the pictures we had to take. Once she took our orders, she again disappeared and we never saw her again. Someone else brought our food (table of four), and we did not see another person until we waved someone down to tell her about how awful the experience was.
FOOD
in a word, AWFUL! The filet mignon was ordered medium and had a perfectly pink center, but was the toughest piece of meat I had ever tasted. How they were able to make a steak tough with a pink center is beyond me, I still have not yet figured out that magic trick! The rest of the table ordered lobster and it was tougher then than my Jordan 5’s. (on a sidenote, the manager said, “oh, we just don’t cook lobster soft like they do in the states.” SMH. One of the sides was a huge mound of mashed potatoes. There were no remnants of a potato skin, which substantiated the thought that this had to be out of the box. They were supposed to be garlic mashed potatoes, but they had ZERO seasoning…..it was just a large glob of white matter.
RESULTS
They were very offended by our complaints and took our comments and suggestions very personally. To avoid conflict and disturbing the other patrons in the restaurant, we paid and left.
Bottom line it was not worth the money, time, or the assault on...
Read moreSo, our friend on the island suggested we check out The Stoned Crab. We called to make reservations or 7 on the deck. Discovered they are closed on Monday’s. So Tuesday it is
We started the day on the beach, which was loaded with many spring breakers. But there was plenty of room for all. I noticed they had lounge chairs on the beach. The space looked well kept on the outside. The deck area looked typical for a Caribbean style beach restaurant.
So we went home to shower and change before dinner. When we arrived it was still light outside. When we walked into the space we were in awe by the space. What a surprise. The hostess met us and was very attentive to helping us and finding the best table on the deck for our group.
They are in their 4th week, open and they still have things to tweak and install, but the experience was fantastic. The staff was friendly and engaging. They helped with the menu items and surprised me with a rum drink.
The menu was impressive all around. Many choices to select from. Veggie, chicken, beef and seafood. I could not figure out what to eat. Ended up with the stoned crab. Never had it, and figured that was the obvious choice.
The bread with dipping sauces were the best app for us, besides salads and scallops. Wow!
The meals arrived and the presentation was excellent all around. Everyone at our table was impressed with their meal. We could not stop talking about it. My stoned crab with butter and mustard sauce was excellent. It was perfect for me and I enjoyed the work needed to eat my meal.
The filet melted in your mouth, the shrimp and grits was perfect. We all enjoyed our food and the environment. The space is fantastic and in time, with lighting, fans and final touches will bring The Stoned Crab a #1 on the island.
There were some hiccups in the service process, but did not hinder our dining experience. Once they get the whole staff in sync , look out. In all honesty, I will probably return a lot sooner now just to experience The Stoned Crab...
Read morefirst visit. Owner greets you at door and is outstanding.
Waiter and waitresses are very attentive.
6 adults and 2 children. Everyone enjoyed their meals and stated it was outstanding.
I gave 4 stars because of limited children menu options and I eat as close to kosher as possible so my choice was a bit limited. The pasta dish I had was great and I devoured the steak the my younger daughter couldn't complete as her kids meal
Here is the amazing thing. I thought every guest table in the place was having a birthday as they approach tables of birthday person and present a cake and serenaded. Of course we got this special treatment also as it was my wife's birthday.
Now here is the kicker, owner stopped at table to see how things was going as was so open to critique that she took another 15 minutes as we exited to speak on how to improve the menu and the options that are available to ensure we return and recommend the place.
We were outside taking pictures as a group and the owner walk out to parking lot, invited us back to restaurant, advising where to take a more scenic picture and took the ti. e to take the pictures herself and even forwarded photos that she took using her phone.
I know from this many would say why not 5 star. I wanted to give 4.5 but that option was not available
visit the place and did I mention that the restaurant is located directly on World famous Taino Beach. So I almost forgot how great the view was and the ambiance of breathing fresh ocean breeze flowing through the restaurant while enjoying the meal in...
