In my recent visits to the Melkerij Bistro, I've encountered a blend of positive and negative aspects that have shaped my overall experience. Allow me to delve into the details of my visits and provide you with a comprehensive review.
The servers are very polite. They’re mostly all students so happiness and politeness are not something that’s missing from them. They gladly help you have a good day and experience. They don’t force you to tip or anything.
It is quite expensive for what it is. It’s supposed to be a bistro, it has a huge playground for the kids, it’s in the middle of the woods. Perfect for parents with little kids. There’s also a mini-golf for the bigger kids and the parents obviously. Though the price doesn’t make it seem like it is, kids would want a pancake or a waffle and when they ask for the menu they quickly change their minds. I’ve seen the bistro quickly empty when it became time to eat, simply because many parents found it too expensive to eat dinner there.
Quality decreases a lot when things get busy. I’ve never had an issue with the food, with the service and probably anything else, but that changed when I decided to go there on a busy summer day during the holidays. First of all, there weren’t any seats or tables left, which obviously isn’t their fault but still, and secondly when we finally had a seat we had to wait an hour for our food to arrive. That was the first time I had my thoughts about the food.
At the end of the day, it’s a really good restaurant, especially for parents with kids of all ages. The only thing you have to think about is when you’re going there and that it can be quite expensive for...
Read moreToo expensive for the quality of the food. The service is too slow when busy. If you are making your customer wait 1h30 for a meal at least inform in advance that the service will take time. Then the customer can wait or choose something that takes less time. I have ordered a vol-au-vent. Not only I have waited 1h30 for it as it came cold (as if it was frozen). I have eten supermarket frozen vol-au-vent with better quality. Despite of this the staff is very friendly. Considering the location (very family friendly) you could do much better. One of the suggestions i would give is to split the service in two. Lunch for those that go there for a meal and other with snacks/drinks for people that just want to drink something and spend some family time but - not their fault - delay...

It's really an old-fashioned Tavern, like we used to have in the old days. The location is beautiful, the atmosphere is warm, the food is great and not too expensive. If the weather is good, it will be busy here, you might have to stand in line for a while when getting drinks.
The playground is nice and surrounded by benches so dad and mum can enjoy a good beer while the kids are running about. My kids love it too. This is definitely one of the nicer places to go in the north of Antwerp.
