Bistro Poirot — Restaurant in Deerlijk

I was quite taken with this place. Located in the village centre of Deerlijk near my colleague's home, I found it to be quite a charming spot. Featuring continental cuisine with a Belgian and French twist, the steaks are the highlight.

The moderate-sized dining room offered a standard but pleasant decor. It was certainly conducive to an enjoyable dinner as there was a lovely ambiance that emanated from a relaxed atmosphere. It was an owner-operated establishment, which always presents the best conditions for above-average service. The service in this case was indeed excellent.

The menu offered some terrific choices. My colleague told me that their specialty is the Filet Pur. Hence, that was the choice for mains for both of us. He started with a trio of croquettes, which he found to be agreeable. I had the lobster bisque, which I thought was well done with a good, hearty flavor. The steaks, both done with a peppercorn sauce, were the highlights of our meals. I am not a heavy red meat consumer, but I have to say that I enjoyed this dish immensely, and would recommend it to anyone who has a partiality to steak. Their wine selection was decent. The Malbec we had to accompany the meal was a little unusual as it was a bit fruitier with more of an oaken overtone than I normally have had. But it was good nonetheless.

The fare was not cheap. My colleague picked up the bill, so I did not see the final price tag. I'd have to think that it approached €150 with the aperitifs, the appetizer, mains, the bottle of wine and finishing coffees. But I'd say it was worth it nonetheless. Vrijdagavond gaan eten bij Poirot voor de 1ste maal. Het eten was heel erg lekker. Mooie bistro die je toch meer dat restaurant gevoel geeft. Heel mooie gezellige inrichting, maar in onze ogen werd dit alles beetje te niet gedaan door de afgesloten rokersruimte die aanwezig is. Wij moesten daar net naast gaan zitten. Toen ik vroeg of we wat verder mochten zitten van de rokersruimte, werd gezegd dat je dit niet rook ( sorry ruik je dus echt wel!!!). Dan maar gevraagd aan de serveerster of we aan een ander tafeltje mochten zitten want alle tafeltjes voor 2 waren nog vrij. Dit mocht van haar dan meteen. Het eten was heel lekker. Zowel de tapas, voorgerecht als hoofdgerecht waren top. Enkel de salade die we kregen bij ons hoofdgerecht, zagen de slablaadjes beetje bruin aan het uiteinde. Voor ons wel een minpuntje. Vriendelijke bediening, de jonge serveersters die werkten die avond waren toppertjes. Ondanks dat we goed gegeten hebben, weten we niet zo goed of dit voor herhaling vatbaar is. De rokersruimte binnen is toch wel een boosdoener...

Het eten was echt voortreffelijk goed. Salade poirot zag er fantastisch uit met meer toppings dan salade. (meestal is het omgekeerd) Ook de quintet van kroket was top! We misten wel een broodje bij het eten (want er stonden wel bordjes met broodmesje, dus we hadden het wel verwacht daardoor) We vroegen ook de apero-mix, maar voor zo'n restaurant verwacht je niet de mora-mix maar een iets meer verfijnde mix. Toen die op was kwam ons hoofdgerecht redelijk snel daarna, nog voor we drank kregen voor het hoofdgerecht. Midden het hoofdgerecht was er nog geen drank gebracht. En we moesten helaas 2x om de dessertkaart vragen.

Gelukkig was ons hoofdgerecht top, wat ons zal doen terugkeren, de kleine details die fout gingen waren misschien door de grote groep die ook...
