Oh, it all began so well – delightful food, I’ll give them that. But at 34 euros for a lunch deal? Absolute bargain, right? And 4.5 euros for a tonic water (without gin, mind you)? Clearly, they’ve nailed down how to charge for air and water, the most exotic of ingredients. Bravo!

The fun really kicked in when I had the audacity to ask for fries instead of mashed potatoes. Silly me, assuming a restaurant that charges more for tonic water than I’d expect for a glass of wine might offer a little flexibility. But no! That’ll be 5 euros for fries, sir, because who knew, potatoes apparently come in multiple price brackets. My bad for not consulting the fine print on the “luxury fry surcharge.”

Now, it might have been my misunderstanding. I mean, how dare I assume switching from one humble side to another could be complimentary? But when I inquired, I was quickly informed – with the utmost grace, of course – that they “don’t work for free.” Oh, and bonus points for the waiter immediately pegging me as trouble the moment I ordered fries. I mean, what kind of monster trades mashed potatoes for fries? Clearly, I’m the problem.

So, this is where it gets really good. The guy basically admitted that he knew I didn’t realize fries came with a hidden cost but said nothing. Why warn a customer when you can just silently savor the inevitable confusion and rake in an extra 5 euros, right? Such a cunning business strategy. Forget happy, returning customers – why bother with that when you can have a quick 5-euro win and a bad review instead?

In conclusion: customer service? Oh, it's somewhere in the negatives. I think I’ll call it a solid -10. Truly a masterclass in how to make a few euros and lose a few customers in...

Heel af en toe vind je een gem en Kroniek is zo'n ongelofelijke vondst. Ik schrijf niet veel reviews, maar deze was het echt meer dan waard. Héél vriendelijke bediening en echt alles was ontzettend lekker. We zijn met 7 die geregeld samen gaan eten en iedereen was het er volmondig over eens dat het eten in Kroniek het lekkerste eten serveerde van al voorbije uitstapjes.
