We stayed at this hotel for one night in July 2009. It was supposed to be our second and last accommodation between Oslo and Paris, and we had booked a family room a couple of months in advance. When we arrived at the hotel it looked like a nice establishment in picturesque and quiet surroundings. But it turned out to be even more quiet than we could have ever imagined...........When we tried to open the reception door it was closed. We tried to look through it, but it was just darkness inside. Then we walked around the hotel trying to find some unlocked doors, but this was also unsuccessful, so we started thinking that this was really weird, in fact almost spooky. About 100 metres from the hotel there was a nice restaurant called La Guinguette, so we decided to go and ask the staff whether they knew anything about the conditions of the hotel. They didnt know why the hotel seemed abandoned, but the proprietor made a telephone call. He got in touch with somebody and told us that there was a key hidden close to the entrance. Eventually we found the key and was able to unlock the door. When we got inside we found an appropriate room and installed us there. The room turned out to be nice enough, and we thought wow ! finally inside. By then it was almost evening, so we went to the restasurant La Guinguette and had a delicious meal. After that we visited the local castle situated just 200 metres away. Late in the evening we went to bed and slept peacefully until next morning. Before our departure we wanted to pay for our stay, but how were we supposed to make our payment ??? As mentioned, apart from us there was not a living soul at the hotel, neither staff nor other guests, and we didnt have any euros in cash, only our credit cards. Ultimately we just departed without being able to pay for our one night stay. They couldn`t expect us to leave our credit card at the reception !! So, our conclution was; This was a stay well worth the money, and also our most bizarre hotel...
Read moreWe didn’t even stay long enough to taste the food — and honestly, we lost all desire to. First, the terrace where meals are served is entirely reserved for smokers. If you were hoping for a fresh, pleasant dining experience outdoors, think again. Second, the service was simply unacceptable. We were left waiting far too long just to receive something as basic as a fork and knife, while friends of the waiter who arrived after us were attended to immediately. Customer care and atmosphere are seriously...
