China Town — Restaurant in Geel

Very nice ambient and decent offers with quite tasty food. A bit too locally adjusted dishes. As I rarely seen someone eat with chopsticks in Belgium, so Chinese restaurants usually put a fork next to plate (you have to ask for chopsticks), but China Town went a step further and now also chunks of meat are so big, that you cannot eat them with chopsticks (you need knife and fork to cut them). Sweet-sour chicken was nicely fried, but instead of usual pineapple they put a apricot-pear compote instead. The taste of sauce was good. Rice does not stick together, so eating it with chopsticks is quite a challenge. On the positive side, the rice that came with the dishes had vegetables and egg inside (something we usually need to order separately).

As mentioned it is fairly adjusted to local habits and I deducted one star for that. Dishes we ordered all had separate tastes and were delicious, so for that I would give 5...

UPDATE mei 2022: Helaas na de corona is er wat veranderd in de kwaliteit. Curry is waterachtig geworden en de gerechten bevatten meer maïzena in hun saus dan smaak. Ook de gepaneerde kipsatés waren een tegenvaller. Zeker omdat ze deze bij het uithalen in een badje curry steken. Iets gepaneerd in een badje steken dan krijg je zompige bedoeling.

Dus na een keer uithalen en er te gaan eten na de corona periode viel het spijtig genoeg tegen en ik hoop dat de kwaliteit van vroeger weer snel terugkomt.

De eerste indruk bij het binnenkomen was niet zo positief. Als niet liefhebber van all-in woks en buffetten zag het buffet er niet aantrekkelijk uit. Ik was blij dat er ook een gewoon menu was.

Het eten was gewoon goed. Zeer goede currysaus en de kipsaté was lekker mals en goed gekruid. De hete plaat was ook af en de porties waren groot.

Mijn cola kwam helaas uit de grote fles. Ik betaal gerust liever wat meer voor een 0,25cl flesje dan een platte cola te krijgen.

Bediening... de eigenaar komt nors over en niet vriendelijk toch... achter de norsheid zit wel wat humor... I like him...

Al bij al een lekker menu wat eigenlijk aan de goedkope kant is. Beetje meer trots in de zaak want het eten dat wij hebben gehad...
