Pulpo — Restaurant in Ghent

Ceviche w/ julienned carrots, avocado purée, daikon radish etc. was smoky yet sweet-ish, and perfectly seasoned ponzu dressing

The Sliced Iberico ham with the olive oil emulsified tomatoes was to die for-the thinly sliced bread triangles were crunchy and fresh, perfectly toasted. The appetizers were all healthy portions, ( as a matter of fact, so were the entrees and desserts).

Crispy chicken was moist and the slightly spicy harissa mayo and cucumber drizzle wasn’t overpowering , just complementary

The ambiance is warm, romantic and cozy, fabulous lighting-outdoor seating is comfy, festive and decorative - complete with sturdy tables, chairs with cushions, pillows and blankets, plenty of heat lamps available along with table lighting, etc. We dined during a blustery, rainy evening, but were snug at our table amongst all the other happy guests.

Thought we had over ordered w/ 3 appetizers and 2 entrees, but appetizers were light and we just wanted to try a few and the entrees-Mon DIEU! Soooo scrumptious! Ordered the FRESH/HOMEMADE linguine w/ truffles and arugula peas and mushrooms, which was fantastic - perfectly prepared, rich but not heavy or gluttonous.

Sea bass was light and flaky, tender skin, a perfectly structured and layered entrée with thinly sliced zucchini, micro greens tomatoes all the fresh goodies with a light broth absolutely fantastic, not to mention beautiful to look at.

Ordered the tiramisu and the chocolate brownie with vanilla scoop accompaniment. Tiramisu was exactly as it should be-light fluffy, not drenched in Kahlúa, but rather the classic with amaretto. Even my husband liked it and he previously hadn’t ever liked it because frankly, it’s not common to get a good one!

My “Schmoopie” said the brownie was moist, dense and delicious!

Service was exceptional. Our waiter was “Thomas” and he was utterly charming.

Music was audible to the point of almost hearing the lyrics, but faded in to the background in a lively way, yet inconspicuous way. It was still conversational, for a mixed crowd with regard to age.

It was a proper restaurant w/ a skilled chef for a sophisticated crowd that appreciates an elevated, dining experience, not a nightclub atmosphere. But it was not stodgy. It was hip, dare I say trendy-yet hopefully everlasting!

Spoke to the owner “Max,” and he said usually they are booked out for weeks, but we got lucky by booking online...

Wish I could give Zero. We have been a frequent customer over the years. But we are very disappointed on recent visit. There was a mistake on the wine menu and €82 bottle was misprinted with 52 Price tag. First, a completely different bottle was brought to the table without telling us upfront. When challenged they admitted it was a mistake on the wine menu, but according to the “boss”, OF COURSE they will not give an expensive bottle for less price! I guess correcting the menu was too much effort/expense, so it’s the customer’s problem, not theirs. And of course, presenting a different bottle than ordered without explicit explanation of reason is also normal. Is it how really a restaurant...

'Eindelijk pulpo'. Stond al een tijdje op de 'to do'. Eerste indruk, tof gebouw, leuke indeling, leuke vibe. (Eventueel ventilatie of roosters voorzien om wat meer zuurstof binnen te krijgen) Desondanks de volle zaal toch een vrij vlotte bediening. Voorgerechten 'to share', de pulpo en de tomaat/burrata. Beide goed van hoeveelheid en heel lekker op smaak gebracht, lichte voorkeur voor de pulpo. Hoofdgerecht de pasta/venusschelpen/gebakken pijlinktvis, gerecht voor 2personen. Heel mooie grote schotel, voldoende schelpen en heel lekker vol van smaak. Gaandeweg de schotel vroegen we ons wel af wanneer de inktvis ons tegemoet zou komen.. ofwel waren deze dit jaar minuscuul ofwel helaas vergeten.. bij het afruimen vroegen we of ze dit vergeten waren en inderdaad bij navraag in de keuken waren deze er niet bij vandaag. Voor ons heel jammer want het is toch een hoofdonderdeel in dit gerecht. Bij het afrekenen zagen we de volle prijs voor dit gerecht voor 2personen aangerekend (desondanks er geen pijlinktvis in het gerecht zat), we hebben dan ook gezegd dat we dit heel jammer vonden maar hier is niet echt een reactie op gekomen. (Ik begrijp uiteraard dat dit voor de serveerster ook een 'ambetante' kwestie was). Jammer dat dit 1. Nooit gezegd is bij het bestellen en 2. Er niet echt een gepast gevolg is aan gegeven. Soit, begrijp mij goed. Er zat misschien een kink in de kabel bij ons eerste bezoek, maar wij komen zeker terug om de andere dingen van de kaart te ontdekken want de smaken van wat we reeds konden proeven (en voorradig waren 😁) zitten zeker meer dan goed! Dus voorlopig een 4 over het algemeen maar ook wel zeker...
