Last night, my partner and I decided to return to La Grillade, a restaurant where we had dined a few weeks earlier. I arrived a bit earlier to secure a table, but was told that the kitchen was already closed, so I left. My partner arrived shortly after and was told the same thing. When he asked about me, one of the staff members referred to me as “a black woman.”
I found this comment completely inappropriate, as skin color has no relevance in that context. Moreover, I am not Black — I’m Spanish, with a skin tone that is darker than white, but not Black. This kind of unnecessary description shows a lack of sensitivity and a behavior that we perceived as racist.
It’s unfortunate, because we had enjoyed our previous visit, but this remark made us feel uncomfortable and disappointed. I hope the restaurant reflects on the importance of treating all customers with respect, without making comments about their appearance...
Read moreLet me preface this review by saying that I am Greek, and I went into a Greek restaurant. Obviously I went in with high hopes. Our order looked like this: Saganaki Aubegines Greek salad Giouvetsi lamb Chef's special.lamb 1 glass ouzo 1 glass tsipouro The saganaki was a nice twist to the Aubergines. Tasty and original. The Greek salad was the biggest disappointment. Too many peppers, too much onion, very low on tomatoes and no cucumber. The giouvetsi was tasty and hearty. Seemed the closest to the food one would eat at home in Greece. The special lamb was tasty but there was not much special about. It was also served with pasta which is a weird combo but voilà. The drinks were solid at least. The Greek music was a nice touch but I expected to at least speak a little bit of Greek...
Read moreSuper restaurant grec.
