Bar Brial — Restaurant in Mortsel

I just visited Bar Brial in Mortsel and had a fantastic experience. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm, modern, and inviting — a perfect blend of casual and chic. It’s a great place whether you’re stopping by for a quick drink or planning a longer evening with friends. The interior is stylish with a cozy touch, and the outdoor seating is a real bonus on a sunny day. Their drink selection is impressive, with a strong focus on high-quality cocktails, local beers, and a well-curated wine list. I tried one of their signature cocktails, and it was perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. The staff were friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do — they take time to explain the menu and make you feel right at home. Although it’s primarily a bar, there are also some small bites and snacks available, and everything we tried was fresh and flavorful. Quiet and spacious spot in the green for grabbing a glass and chilling. Family- and dog-friendly. Note the presence of the sandbox for the kids and some fountains. For their pleasure but that can also cause some inconvenience for customers sitting around. Advice : take the high tables a bit further or the deckchairs in the grass.

Gisteren gingen we met zes personen eten bij Bar Brial, maar helaas was de ervaring allesbehalve aangenaam. Ondanks onze reservatie stond de tafel nog vol en moest deze nog worden gepoetst toen we aankwamen. Dat kwam vreemd over, want het was niet bijzonder druk en er leek voldoende personeel aanwezig te zijn.

Het ontvangst was eerder slordig: plakkerige menukaarten werden ons nonchalant toegeworpen, wat geen professionele indruk gaf. Tijdens het plaatsen van de drankbestelling liep het twee keer mis: telkens ontbrak er een drankje. Tot overmaat van ramp stootte de barman bijna de fles wijn om die hij net had gebracht.

De bediening bleef rommelig verlopen. Onze borden van het voorgerecht werden niet afgeruimd voor het hoofdgerecht werd geserveerd – terwijl ze zelfs nog niet leeg waren. We hebben ze uiteindelijk zelf maar aan de kant gezet. Daar bovenop waren de glazen niet proper. Op meerder glazen stond de mondafdruk van de vorige klant nog op, wat absoluut onaanvaardbaar is.

Wat opviel was dat de ober met de meeste ervaring de schuld voortdurend bij zijn jongere collega’s legde, terwijl zijn eigen gedrag weinig professioneel overkwam. Het geheel straalde geen enkele vorm van coördinatie of klantgerichtheid uit.

Spijtig genoeg was dit een slechte ervaring en kan ik Bar Brial op basis hiervan niet aanbevelen. Hopelijk wordt er werk gemaakt van een betere opleiding en aansturing van het personeel, want de locatie en het concept...
