A nice hotel with friendly staff, very good breakfast, I only stayed the one night and would stay here again, feel this hotel is good value for money.||||Torhout is a charming town worth a visit to explore its streets and pubs, it is close to Brugge with a good rail link, so and ideal base for touring the area.||||I Used this hotel for one night (Saturday) to rest after completing a very long walk the "Night of Flanders" (Friday Night). ||A few weeks before my stay, I was passing Torhout so I paid my hotel bill in person in advance, They gave me advice on the best free place to park 100m from the hotel, ||and asked if I could leave a small overnight bag whilst I completed the walk which they said was not a problem, and true to their word I left a small bag on the Friday whist I did the night walk (this saved me walking to the car picking up bags and returning to the hotel, and when tired means a lot). ||On the Friday the manager showed me how to contact them if nobody was at reception as they live a few doors away.||I finished the walk and had something to eat and drink with freinds at the finish, ||I arrived at the hotel and considered having a shower and then some more beers but ||decided shower followed by an early night the better option. Therefore cannot comment on the meals, but the menu looked good.||The room is on the first floor is up a big open spiral staircase off the reception area. ||My room was small but functional, as with the on suite shower/toilet (I would have liked two towels instead of the one).||Two single beds (side table and reading lights), TV, writing desk/makeup area with chair and clothes storage.||I have mentioned the room is a bit on the small side, but more than adequete for a short stay, longer stays where you intend to spend a long time in the room might then become an issue.||After a good night sleep, I went for breakfast. This was quite a surprise and puts many more expensive hotels to shame.||I can't remember all the options, hot pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, cereals, hams, cheese, rolls, bottled fuit juice, pate (the list goes on).||Being away from home I played safe and had fresh coffee rather than tea, other people had refills, but one pot was enough for me, this completed a really good breakfast and...
Read moreWe were visiting Torhout, Belgium for a friend's wedding and Hotel De Beiaard was rated quite highly by the organisers. Having checked out the websites, we made a reservation about 3-4 months prior to the event and was presented with a reservation notice (as attached). ||We called up two days before our trip to confirm that everything was in order and we were given the all clear. ||After a long drive from London (5 hrs), while we were trying to check in, we were presented with the bad news; that our rooms have been given to other guests. The receptionist spoke no English and very bad French and I dont speak Flemish. The fact that we had reserved the room and called a few days prior did not mean one bit. The only saving grace is that De Beiaard reserved us at another hotel about 6-10kms away. I can understand that we might be able to move to the other hotel relatively easy however should we have been travelling via train, this would have been very difficult given that the other hotel is in the middle of the belgian countryside.||The Hotel De Beiaard did not even apologise for their incompetence, did not even have the decency to call us prior to advise that there had been changes. The new hotel that they booked for us was even lower in quality and was more expensive. A rather sour taste...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our two night stay whilst attending an event in Ichtegem on Saturday evening.||||We arrived at 4pm on Friday and were welcomed by Johan who helped us to unload our car and to find a place to park. As Sunday [parking is free, we found local parking for just 7 euros for Friday evening and all day Saturday.||||As others have noted, the rooms are 'cosy' but they have clearly been recently refurbished and were smart, comfortable and very clean. ||||Breakfast was an excellent variety of choice and good quality. ||||We also enjoyed and excellent dinner in the restaurant one night.||||The welcome was warm and friendly and we would return if we ever needed to stay in Torhout again.||||At present the Market Square is being completely redeveloped and you should ask the hotel for explicit Sat Nav directions to reach the hotel entrance||||We can recommend visiting the...
