De Kom — Restaurant in Tremelo

This was an instant hit for us and our children recently! We have been looking for a restaurant with a playground right next to it, so that we can watch our kids (3-8 years old) while enjoying a nice meal, preferably outdoors. This place nails it in all possible ways! It has both indoor and outdoor tables and playgrounds that are safe and very enjoyable by the kids. The food and variety is a notch up from the typical brasseries or fritteries that you find in such places, although a bit overpriced (but nobody forces you to eat, there is no entrance fee and you can just order a drink). We went on two Sunday afternoons and although the parking lot was almost full, there were plenty of available tables and the service is fast and overall nice (you scan a QR code to order online, which I find very practical). Great first experience at De Kom. Sunday afternoon we didn't have a reservation but were greeted by this floor manager right at the entrance. A table was available for us. We were amazed by the size, the concept, the menu, the playgrounds. It seems like everything runs smoothly. Lots of staff walking around inside. Order system is handy. Our order came fast. We tried a bit of everything that day. Prices are fair if you take into account the comfort of the venue, the service, the quality. I wish the food was more diverse though. Als drank nam ik een Cuvée Clarisse Rum Infused, deze was lekker en goed op temperatuur zoals beschreven op de fles. De drank kwam met een soort van Ranobo cafenootjes/chips. Als hoofdgerecht nam ik een steak Belgisch Wit-Blauw van slagerij Persoons 250g. De steak zag er prachtig uit en was perfect gebakken en echt fantastisch van smaak. De verse béarnaise was hemels en zeer mooie portie! De frieten waren ook super, beetje vettig maar zo lekker! Daar dat niemand eens langskwam.. heb ik via de algemene nummer gebeld om frieten bij te bestellen. De mayonaise die er bij kwam, kwam in een plastiek potje zoals je ze in de frituur krijgt, en lag onder het niveau van de rest wat ik hier at. Dit zowel op vlak van smaak als presentatie. De salade was lekker verfrissend, de vinaigrette was perfect uitgebalanceerd met de hoeveelheid salade.

De service, service? Men moet een QR-code scannen voor een bestelling te plaatsen waarvan niemand uitleg komt geven over hun systeem. Na een 15tal min aanwezig te zijn en iemand hoopte te zien heb ik uiteindelijk de code ingescant. Er is geen enkele connectie met de klant. Ze komen ook niet zien of er nog iets nodig is of alles naar wens is. Jammer, maar dit zal ongetwijfeld vlotter werken voor de keuken dus ok.

Sfeer was ongezellig en industriële look. Deze plaats is voornamelijk voor mensen met kinderen, het is hier dan ook redelijk luidruchtig, druk en wild. Niet aan te raden als je comfortabel, gezellig of even op je gemak wilt zijn, maar als je zeer goed wilt eten zeker langskomen! Het eten was zo lekker en van goede kwaliteit dat de rest met een korrel zout mag genomen worden, enkel een scherp vleesmes had wel makelijk geweest.
