L' Ascoli — Restaurant in Zaventem

Service was poor. We explained that we needed the meals to be gluten free in both English and French, the manager came over to talk to us and explained that the potato cakes would have flour but he could replace that for a gluten free pasta. We thought all would be good. After waiting for 45 mins our food finally arrived. Only one meal came with the promised pasta and it was the wrong one. The duck was supposed to come with only vegetables instead it was served with pasta and nothing else. The lamb was still served with the potato cakes and green beans instead of the white celery and leeks as stated on the menu. I usually decide on what I want based on what the menu says accompanies the dish, apparently this is a foolish thing to do.

To top it all off no one ever came back to check on us. We still have no idea if the potato was deemed safe in the kitchen and that’s why they were left on the plate or if they simply confused the orders. Either way we didn’t want to chance eating them without confirmation and we’re never given the chance to ask.

We waiting another 20 mins eagerly looking around the restaurant trying to make eye contact with the one server or the manager. Napkins covering our plates, clearly ready to leave. No one came, no one looked in our direction. We finally had to go stand by the front door to get our bill and leave.

The lamb had a good flavour, the beans were cold and yet over cooked. The duck was tough and chewy. And although they were beautifully plated neither meal was served hot.

Hair in the food and unapologetic. Have been to this restaurant multiple times and liked the food. We were here on Saturday as a family and ordered our dishes. The personnel convinced me for a special dish of the day and I ordered it. After 2 bites of the food, I found hair in the dish. My wife brought it to the notice of the waiter and she took my dish away only to bring the same food back on another plate. She said that the hair did not come from the staff but possibly from my wife or my daughter who was with me. Totally dismissive and no apologies at all. I refused to eat the dish and they just took away my plate. We refused desserts and told them about the pathetic service. Once again no apologies and in the end they offered a free drink which we refused. They charged me the full price of the dish with the hair. We just paid and left. Never again to visit this restaurant again. Because of my non-european background they did not feel like servicing me and my family rightly. Wish there was an option to give...

Very nice Italian restaurant, near the city center of Zaventem, only a couple of minutes away from,the ringway around Brussels. The food of l'ascoli, previously situated in Schaarbeek as la stelle, is delicious, fair and straight Italian quality prepared with skill and mastership. There is more than sufficient room, also for larger groups on the first floor. During the summer, one can also sit at the beautiful terrace outside. Only watch our where you park your car. The restaurant has parking space at the back, that should be used because a private company checks parking tickets/use of Blauwe zone/blue card zone and is hyper-active in fining drivers, even if they only exceed the parking time with a...
