stayed here in jan 2024 the night before my flight home from belize. though my final room was clean, it was bare bones and did not have wifi. compared to other places i stayed, this was the most expensive stay (food and hotel) and the most disappointing. although my driver (who was also a bird guide) was great!
i booked a 20 min shuttle ride to/from the airport (final price was about $46USD). when i arrived there was a very long wait for my room. when i finally got into my room, the bed was dirty. the hotel manager changed my room to one closer to the river which was clean.
once i settled into the room, i realized there was no wifi. i called and walked over to the front desk a few times, but no one could fix the wifi signal in my room. one staff member (begrudgingly) came by to examine the problem, but they couldn’t fix it either. it worked perfectly fine elsewhere in the resort, but not in the riverfront A rooms.
i had dinner by pool and it took forever to get someone to give me a menu. when i finally ordered, the food was just ok.
i thought about going for a swim in the pool, but the water was very cloudy and i decided not to. instead i laid on the chairs by the pool and wandered around, looking at the birds of the resort. i saw a oropendola which was a highlight for my stay.
overall, i was disappointed with the resort and lack of amenities. at check out, i discussed the issues with the pool and the wifi thinking they may comp some of my stay, but that was...
Read moreThis place was an added night before our vacation so we could see the Altun Ha Ruins. Loved it! We arranged for pickup and Edmond was waiting at the airport for us. Gave us all kinds of information on our way to the Hotel. Took our bags to our room for us. They arranged for our Altun Ha Mayan Ruin tour and Edmond took us and was our tour guide. He truly was amazing and he brought his daughter on the tour and she was so stinking adorable. It was just the 4 of us that day. He gave us so much information at the ruins about Belize, the different trees, the ruins. It was the best. He then took us to a place for lunch, the site and then to the water taxi so we could go out to the island we originally booked. Black Orchid property is beautiful, they were all super nice. Food at the restaurant was really good. Everything was reasonably priced. Our room was great! I had the best nights sleep that first night than I've had in years. The bed was form but had a super soft top. Sooooo comfortable. Great porch to relax on. Posting pics. Flowers on the bed from the property. I couldn't have asked for a better addition to our trip. We will be going back. The owner was always coming around making sure things were good. She was very kind and caring....
Read moreCheck in was fairly seamless, we walked from the parking lot to our room (upstairs, poolside). The kids were thrilled to be so close to the pool! We were also happy to have a way to cool off, while waiting for our room to come down to a reasonable temperature. Good thing, too, because we were at least a few towels short of enough for everyone. I called to let them know we needed 3 more. And unfortunately the pool towels were out, too. After a 2nd call, we got enough towels to dry off and get showers. The bartender was kind of busy, too. It took a little while to order, and a bit to get all our drinks out- but we did get all of it, so all's well that ends well, We also found a small "baby" lizard (gecko, maybe?) swimming in the pool- such a treat as everyone was able to hold it, and then let him back out of the pool. Dinner was pretty good, breakfast was also good. There is a small gift shop off the restaurant where we found some fun souvenirs (including a I Ras Fa I veggie cookbook!), Belize magnet, carved soapstone, postcards, natural soaps, etc. I also tried to shop the little natural Botanical shop at the front of the property- but was told,...
