Our go-to beach bar on the very southern end of Seine Bight. Owned and run by the lovely Joelene, it began as a Covid business and has blossomed over the last few years into a gorgeous beach bar with no pretensions, no television, and no trace of North America.
What is does have is a beautiful, tucked away beachfront location down the end of an unlikely looking sandy cut-de-sac, fabulous cocktails and extremely cold beer, a small but reliable menu and attentive, friendly service. A good mix of locals and expats for lively conversation. Very comfortable tables and chairs (believe me, this is highly unusual in Belize) and a shallow, sandy beach that you can take a dip in while waiting for your lunch.
I always order the shrimp quesadilla because it's the best I've tried in Belize, and my husband always has the chicken fingers and fries. But the bargain daily special is always worth a try, especially the fried chicken. There's a beach BBQ on Sundays.
So get off the beaten tourist track and come support a woman-owned true Belizean business. I can't think of a better way to spend a few hours with friends, whatever...
Read moreThis funky tiki bar in an undeveloped neighborhood is the real deal. You’ll find a warm welcome, honest cocktails, ice cold Belikin and tasty food. We stumbled on Malula’s because we are staying nearby, and we can’t stay away. I’ve met more than one amazed local who wondered how they never knew about this place before. There’s no sign on the road, and you won’t find it unless you know it’s there, but if you start at Vern’s in Seine Bight, go to the end of the street, turn right and walk 100 feet along the beach, you’ll find Malula’s. Jolene, the owner, sources from local truck farms, fisheries, and livestock. At the hands of her experienced chef, these fresh ingredients showcase simple but delicious pub fare. Ask Jolene about the salvaged architectural elements of this quintessential tiki bar — they include bits from gone-but-still-beloved bars and eateries around Placencia. It’s as if these cherished elements have kept big development at bay and created a magic bubble of...
Read moreCame here for dinner and it was delicious. Meals on offer are written on the blackboard, mostly Mexican/American favourites, such as burritos, nachos and burgers. The food is not amazing, but it is pretty good. The portions are very generous and filling. I (20 M) felt full after having half of the nachos and half of my brother’s burger. I probably wouldn’t have finished all the nachos myself!
For food, we had an egg burrito, two crispy chicken burgers, a regular beef burger and beef nachos. For drinks we had two grapefruit juices, a cranberry juice, a coconut water and a beer. This all came to $98 BZD. We were very happy with our meal here and recommend it to anyone in the area.
Special shout-out to the wait staff/kitchen for accomodating my mother’s preference for a vegetarian burrito and pricing it fairly. This made jt a great dining experience for her.
We enjoyed eating here and will ensure we return for a future visit when we are next...
