Oceania beach bar — Restaurant in Cyprus

Family day out.. Arrived at the restaurant at 12.45....the 1st thing I see is that ALL tables were reserved. Waiting around the restaurant for a member of staff to find us a table. Found the only table within 30 minutes with no reserve label. Ordered our food within the next 20 minutes.... It was two fish meze, a club sandwich and 10 portion of chicken nuggets. Then the waiting started.... It must of been at least 30 minutes for the food to come to our table, well the kids food arrived and from the meze the salad and the starters with pita bread.... So my wife and I started eating the starters because we were hungry.... Then another 30 minutes passed and what did we get? A small plate with 4 fish on and 1 small atherina...so being hungry we ate all of them on the plate.... Again we waited for about another half hour only to receive another small plate with 2 burnt shrimp, 2 overcooked mussels, and a very small finely chopped up squid.... Tasteless.... But we thought no problem the big fish is coming up.... After another 30 minutes the waiter handed over the sea bream (tsipoura)... It was cold, dry and overcooked..... It was soo dry that i used 4 lemon pieces just so i can eat it... It didnt work so with every bite i was taking, i was washing it down with my beer so it wont get stuck in my throat.... I left after paying 62 euros for a bit of fish and the kids meal... And was still hungry. The restaurant have no idea how a fish meze works... Overpriced for a bit of small fish and a left over sea bream... And being in Cyprus, right next to the beach if you cant do that right then I should suggest changing...

I have been to Oceania quite a few times and have never really been disappointed as it is one of the few beach bars that have remained authentically Cypriot. Today however, not so great. We asked for our coffees and requested any alternative milks to which he said no I dont think we have. I knew they had so I said if he could check please. Sure enough they had all kinds of alternative milks available which was great. We then ordered 2 omelettes, one with ham and the other with no meat as my friend is a vegetarian. My other friend also ordered the vegetarian Zucchini burger. My friends burger was dry, with no promised avocado tzantziki, the two omelettes were both wrong with my vegetarian friend receiving ham. All of these three items took about an hour to come out. I have no qualms in hiring young lads, I think it's brilliant, but they really need to want to do this job, with the first not even wanting to check for the appropriate milk and the other not bothering to write the food order down.

The food isn't that cheap, we are paying for the food and service, you can do better. You dont need to be 5 star quality but youre doing your lovely place a disservice.

The environment is lovely though, with chairs and tables on the beach front and...

I wanted to organize a birthday celebration for my wife on the beach, but unfortunately, things didn’t go well. We were celebrating with a large group — 10 adults and 6 children. We ordered 3 fish meze and 2 meat meze for the adults + fish platter, and pizzas for the kids.

In the end, the 3 fish meze, which are supposed to be prepared for a minimum of 2 people each (so for 6 people total), were simply made as one meze for 2 people and presented as if it were all three. I asked the waiter if there was a mistake and how it could be that 3 meze are served with just one large fish (which wasn’t even that big). The same thing happened with the meat meze — they made the classic version for 2 people, when it should have been for 4.

I ended up paying far more than what we actually received. The staff’s attitude was also very strange: drinks that don’t even need preparation, just to be brought to the table, we had to wait 20–30 minutes for them. There was constant confusion with the orders, and another “feature” of the place is bringing the bill when you haven’t asked for it, while the celebration isn’t even over and the place...
