London Cafe & Grill — Restaurant in Borneo

Food here is hit or miss. Not consistent at all. I’ve tried the Bandar branch a few times and the steak was good back then. But this time, the steak was overcooked and chewy like rubber. Service wasn’t great either. We ordered drinks, salad, soup, steak, and cakes but they served the cake first even before drinks. When we asked for it to come last, the waitress gave us attitude and said we didn’t mention that when ordering.

Then the salad came before the soup, and the steak was served last. I asked my cousin, who just went last month, and he said it was good during his visit. He told me it depends on whether the boss is cooking. So now I have to ask who the chef is before ordering? That’s just silly.

Lastly, when we asked for the cakes again, the waitress gave us this “oh, now you want it?” kind of look. We felt so uncomfortable, we didn’t even finish our food and just left. Not sure if I even want to go back. The way they looked at us, it’s like we were monkeys or something.

21June @ 22:57. No edits to my previous comment. I'm just replying here because I couldn’t find any way to respond directly to the message. After checking my phone gallery, I couldn’t find any photos of the food, and we definitely didn’t keep the receipt. We also paid by cash, so there’s really no way for me to provide proof.

Anyway, I dined in at your Batu Bersurat branch, and the incident did happen. I never said that our previous experiences or the food were bad, just that particular day was very uncomfortable. The steak, I swear, was extremely chewy. Not just one set, but all three.

As for the chef being the owner that was something my cousin mentioned, and he has dined there quite a few times too. So perhaps he was mistaken. That part is our mistake, and I apologize for that.

But the food and the attitude we experienced that day? No. That really happened, and I didn’t feel good about it. I’m not asking for a refund or anything. It’s simply a comment about my experience with the food.

So if we are allowed to praise the food and service without showing a receipt, why is it that when the food or service isn’t up to standard, we have no right to comment...

This was our second visit to London Cafe and Grill. Both visits have been exceptionally good. The service team are so welcoming and friendly, and very helpful. On our first visit we enjoyed the Mature Cheese and Mushroom burgers, and on our second we had the wagyu Ribeye. The burgers were delicious and had incredible flavours and a generous topping of cheese and mushrooms. We added onion rings which were excellent. The Ribeye was truly the best steak we have enjoyed in Brunei up until now. Cooked to perfection and served with a generous portion of chips and veggies. We ended with some cheesecakes…both the Lotus and Burnt cheesecake were fantastic. London Cafe has become a firm favorite for us. Compliments to the chefs and the wonderful front...

This restaurant offers a very pleasant environment with comfortable seating. The staff are polite, as expected in a Western restaurant, though some had difficulty understanding English. However, when it came to the food, it was quite disappointing. I ordered the grilled scallop, and unfortunately, it tasted bitter and sour, making it truly hard to finish.
