Sun Tha Restaurant and Guesthouse is located in the center of Stung Treng, with easy access to the market and meals. The hotel was clean, we were warmly greeted and our things were safe while we were in the village. We rented four rooms for our non-profit group who was helping with a community project, two with twins and two with queens. Each room had a small veranda and the air conditioning kept the room cool. The bathroom included an English/American style toilet, small shower, and sink. It was cleaned daily and our towels were in very good shape (clean, not musty, and dry). There is no elevator, we stayed on the third of floor, the staff is happy to help get bags up the stairs and to your room. The rooms are no frill but they're great place to sleep, relax, and cool off.||||There were boys who stayed in the hallway at night, while we were not clear on who they were, it seems that they are street boys that are given to permission for one to stay on each floor and keep the hallways clean. Several were eating breakfast in the morning outside the kitchen.||||The restaurant is simple and is in the ground floor of the building that also serves as the hotel greeting space. We had several meals here and were very happy with the meal (16 people for lunch and $35 including beverages). They have bottled water and drinks that are sealed and large portions in a family style service. Remember that if you chicken in Cambodia, is more of a seasoning than a meat product (the chicken's are skinny).||||We've stayed here in August for the past five years. We pay between $14-19 a night but have locals who secure the room for us ahead of time. Stung Treng is a remote village, it is not a hub for night life it isn't a place to come to do things, but is a great place to get to know wonderful people who live simply. If you want to experience local culture as a traveler and not a tourist this is place to go. The locals are the people who will share their community with you. The people are happy to try their English and we were delighted walking down the street as the children in their uniforms shyly greeted us in English and tried their fluency. We loved people and the opportunity to assist them make improvements in their homeland.||||The weather quickly changes and the tropical climate is hard on the buildings. We have had good luck here but they are always working on places where the weather has infiltrated...
Read moreI saw a coupe of positive reviews about Suntha Restaurant and I was not so satisfied with my meal at Ponika's Palace so I thought I would find there tonight. It is quite a large restaurant with many locals dining there, and I was the only foreigner . As soon as I entered the waitress handed me an English menu which had photos of all the meals, and I quickly decided beef with rice. The wooden furniture including the tables was amazing, carved from thick planks of wood. I guess my meal arrived within ten minutes and it turned out to be delicious and just enough for me . Along with a can of beer I paid $3.50. Wish I was staying another day so I could try...
