I think 3 stars is a bit generous just based on my full experience. My first impressions: the space behind the main counter like the "bar" area was quite cluttery with papers and junk which doesn't look super great (I can look passed this obviously if the food is good) no music playing which makes conversations very awkward. I hate having to talk in a hushed voice so it doesn't seem like everyone in the restaurant can hear me has a large fish tank which is always a nice addition to a restaurant but like most aquariums I usually see in a store, it was neglected and missing a quarter of its water from evaporation. Not to mention it had no plants for the fish to hide in. Sad for the fishies and makes the restaurant seem grungey.
Now the food. Most Chinese restaurants will substitute rice for chow mein but this place has a strict "no substitute" policy. Sucks since my boyfriend nor myself are crazy about rice. I ordered the dinner for 1 with the mixed veggies & sweet and sour pork for $14.95. The wonton soup it came with was good but really small. The dish itself was fine but nothing to write home about. I probably won't be back unless to see how their weekend...
Read moreBeen a "local" for over 7 years now. Finally tried this place for takeout tonight (during COVID "2nd lockdown") with 5 dishes: ginger beef, Kung Pao chicken, salt & pepper shrimp, Special chow mein, and Special chop suey. Bean sprouts in the chop suey were crunchy and fresh -- exactly what I was seeking. Only complaints were 1) deep fried meats (beef in ginger beef, chicken in Kung Pao, salt & pepper shrimp) weren't as crunchy as they could have been if fresh, but is more of an artefact of takeout than the dish itself, so isn't really a complaint, and 2) I wanted more spice, but I guess that's not really a complaint either.... So my complaints are...
Read moreTried walking in at 4:20pm to place an order to take out, the lady denied taking an order due to apparently being backlogged with orders even though they don't close until 8pm. I definitely won't be back an would either try carstairs or olds. Definitely not pleased at all. Update on this, I'm glad they refused to take my order, I now have found a better Chinese food place, there's a Chinese food in olds that has wicked amazing, mouth watering food, I'll be going to olds for my Chinese food from now on. Green Bamboo could have had my business but after reading all the reviews on there business an the quality of service an food served, I'm glad they refused cause I don't want dog food from what I've read so far, I rather have good quality food an I got that plus better service at the Chinese...
