Mamas' In The Kitchen — Restaurant in Alberta

TLDR: well executed standard North American breakfast at a reasonable price with excellent service in a dated building.

Looking for a Sunday breakfast West of Edmonton, we returned to Mamas' in The Kitchen in Alberta Beach. We had been here once before (for lunch). As it was the last time we ate there, it was relatively busy, we happened to time it right and got our choice of table. People clearly enjoye ating here, there were some obvious regulars and a multigenerational families. The flooring in here is old, the furniture functional and clean but not new, and the decor is that awful "everything we can fit on the walls that is tangentially related to the feeling we want to convey at the moment we found a deal" diner clutter. That said, the service was prompt, attentive and friendly. I asked for hot sauce and was given a list of choices and it was brought right away. The food here is good. We had French toast and the Banger breakfast, she with whipped cream and previously frozen berries, mine with beef sausage and eggs. The options for hashbrowns were cubed as you see or shredded, there were 4 or 5 toast options, I had sourdough. It was excellent quality bread, properly toasted, not too light, not too dark. Toast accoutrements (jam, pb) are not on the table, they bring them on demand. The hash browns are simple, not seasoned, not mushy, not made from frozen. The coffee was a little weaker than I like, but within the range of what some people prefer. The washroom I visited was clean and modern.

My Soup of the Day Came Fast 1 kid had Pasta I tried 1 the other kid had Pizza I did NOT try My Sister a KAREN had Mashed potatoes & gravy & Tater tots i Tried & Ribs her Husband had Pulled Pork cut the wrong way I had after he cut IT the Rite way, My Sisters Youngest kept making Towers out of the Milk Containers as Grandma Had Coffee. Had 2 Wait for the second things Not Extremely & ALL Tables were Full we Barley had to Wait to SIT down thou, After Super My Sister & Mom Paid the Bills then our Mom had brought her Walker then went Washroom the Toilets are a Bit 2 Low & NO handles 2 get UP so My Sister had to Help her Get up Off The Unisex bathroom toilet Since The Back Doors were Closer to Leave Mom Left The Building threw the Back Door & I pulled My Brown Van UP 2 the Back Curb Steps & OFF we Left. 4 got 2 Mention the Portion Sizes Are Large the Pasta the Salads the pulled Pork & the Ribs, Even Mom's Coffee was Large. Fountain Pops Were NOT working could Only imagine how large those were. Everything was Expensive but the Porshion Sizes Made UP for IT. Mom & I Could Have Shared A Salad easy & been Full the Pasta the Kids Could have Shared & the Pizza Was Large enough for 2 for Mom & Me 2 Share also My Sister & her Husband could have Shared His plate or hers Minus the Mashed Potatoes that could should have been, Double the Mashed potatoes. Aug 15 Lunch time fish and chips. Excellent. Huge order. One piece but it covers the plate. Perfect size for me. Still could not finish the chips tho.

July 25,2024 needed a pancake fix $7.50 for one big pancake. Can feed 4 i bet comfortably.

June 2024. Had the turkey sandwich. I was asked what i want on it. And choice of bread. It was great. Fresh pulled turkey on it. Huge order of fries.

May 2023 update. Had a fish and chips. I think it was a wee bit undercooked. And i didn’t have the heart to wonder. Cus i am no expert. Is it supposed to be a bit slippery in the middle or flaky? If not supposed to be flaky then it was totally fine. Seemed to me a bit smooth and slimy i wanna say. I will Keep stars high every local loves this place. I could tell as they filed in so my fish maybe it was the way it should be. Try burgers next time. Thats my plan.

Went to try and i liked it. I ordered the 3pcs fried chicken with fries. Gravy. It comes with a fresh made salad. And i tried their home made vinaigrette. The chicken was crispy and it had a dry bone which maybe some like that some maybe not. I would have preferred a bit more juicy. But minor. The fries are on the thick side. Everything came out hot.
