I took my husband for breakfast for his birthday after staying at the water moon lodge next door. We walk in and weren’t really greeted. My husband said two for breakfast please and we were instructed to sit where we wanted. So we decided to sit outside. As we walked toward the patio we were instructed to grab menus… odd. Now it’s been a few years since we’ve been there and the owners had switched and it was very noticeable… now the view is great. But we sat down and the server which sounded like an owner or manager was horrid. We asked as online they have a different menu. Which we were told or more like complained to about how the old owner is messing around with the online part. Okay moving along we ordered. Food was brought out and I had a BLT and hashbrowns while my husband had the eggs Benedict. Now the BLT was mainly tomato’s. I soggy leaf of lettuce and not much bacon. My husbands breakfast I had made a comment to him about how “chunky” the Benedict looked. At this point he didn’t want to make a fussy so he ate it anyways. Big mistake he paid for. I finished my meal and my husband was just finishing up his. And our server came and dropped off the bill. I looked at my husband (really?) as we were not asked if we would like anything els or if we were done. I’m annoyed at this point. She dropped the machine in the table in front of my husband again and so I grab it to pay. Didn’t check in on us and was just crap service.
It the fact that a few years back when the old owners ran it the service was impeccable. The food was so good and we were stuff. Worth every penny. But the new owners that took over the chalet and the lodge don’t seem to know what they are doing. For the money you spend for the food and the view I was assume that you’d get the service as well. It clear to understand why they are clearly not as busy as the past. It was a real let down on the service as a birthday breakfast and a get away turned into a waste of money and nothing but cop outs.
Reading the past reviews you’ll have some insight on what to except from here. It could have been the one server but in all honestly you can get better food for cheaper els where. The only good part was the veiw. That’s what you’ll be paying for.
Poor service. Basic food. They need to do better to their guests. Be a bit more personable. Working in customer service I know isn’t easy but when you’re paying for a service at least do the basic. Come on now.
I honestly don’t suggest wasting your money here unless you want the view. There are better places to go that will provide...
Read moreMy partner and I were on our way to Victoria today and decided to stop and eat at the Malahat Chalet. I have had the pleasure of eating there a couple of times before and have always enjoyed my meal and today was no exception. While perusing the menu I found a dish called “dirty fries”. Thankfully there was a wonderful description of this delectable treat! After reading about these wonderful potatoes, we both decided to try them. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich which included a generous portion of moist and tasty meatloaf, melted cheese, sliced tomato and lettuce, all served on warm sourdough bread. Along side were the “dirty fries”. These wonderful garlic encrusted slices were a wonderful gastric experience and when dipped into the garlic aioli provided they rose to another level. My partner had the beef dip. It was served on a fresh, toasted ciabatta bun and contained a healthy portion of tender, moist roast beef slices. Then there was the au jus. It obviously was made in house and had all the flavour of the roast it came from. It was light and delicate and perfectly seasoned. Then we got the idea to dip our “dirty fries” into the au jus. It was almost a religious experience! On top of all that, there was Joanne, our server who came with a level of professionalism, courtesy and service we have not seen in a very long time. So to conclude, I would like to extend my cudoos to the chef for a meal we raved about for over an hour afterward and a level of serve and competence we have not seen in a long time. Thank you just doesn’t seem...
Read moreI want to love the Malahat Chalet. I drive by everyday on my commute and would love an excuse to regularly stop and enjoy the view with some solid food. The customer service is great, and their cakes on display are enticingly creative. But everytime I go there, I am disapointed. From the fact that they do not list the prices upfront for their bakery case, which FYI, $10 is too much to pay for a thin slice of day old dry cake, to the fact that they build in a 18% gratuity to a VERY subpar, bland buffet experience, which comes as a nasty surprise when you get the overpriced bill. For the same price, we could have a beautiful dining experience at the Aerie down the road, which we will be doing next time we stop to eat on the Malahat.
The buffet was a particular letdown because of the 18% built in gratuity and hefty pricetag of over $30 per person. There was no one manning the omelette station, the bennys were tasteless and stale, the Yorkshire puddings were rubbery, and the seasoning that they used on the Roast Beef was curious and not in a good way. If you are craving a good buffet experience while on a road trip, I would recommend the buffet on the ferries instead, at $26.
But if you do stop in there, I believe it is the strawberry cream strudel that is to die for and it is around $6, which is well worth it.
2 stars because of the view, the friendly staff and the bakery for most part is great. But seriously, listing prices would be helpful. The day we went for the buffet was definitely a huge fail and we probably won't be returning...
