PUNA Empanadas - Traditional & Authentic — Restaurant in Area C (Long Beach)

This place is a gem, despite the negative feedback I do have. Have been to Tofino so many times but have never noticed this place. I'm so happy for google maps or else I might have never known this place existed. All they serve are empanadas which means they do it right. Ordered one chicken and one beef. They are pricey for what you get, but experience has taught me the more expensive the better, they wouldn't still be in business if it wasn't worth every penny. The empanadas are hot and fresh, the chimmicurri is out of this world, thick and gentle flavours, not bold and overpowering the empanadas. The chicken was the star for me, so flavourful, packed with chicken, juicy and everything cooked absolutely perfectly. That pastry is outstanding. Onto the beef.... it was equally loaded with beef, juicy and flavouful. Unfortunately mine was loaded with salt. To a point it was almost unenjoyable. Perhaps this was just a bad pot of beef or a mistake, but the chicken while salty wasnt overpowering, complimented the empanada perfectly but the beef, made me almost want to drive back and ask whats up with the salt? I should be provided a bottle of water for free with this. If I didnt pay $14+ for what you see in the photos I could have been more understanding but at this price for two empanadas they ought to be perfect. We recently stopped by Puna Empanadas, food truck, for a little break, and it turned into such a special moment. My husband and I not only got to enjoy their delicious empanadas, but we also had the pleasure of meeting José, his lovely wife, and their beautiful baby. Their warmth and kindness made us feel so welcome.

The empanadas were fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. I tried the eggplant veggie empanada and the apple strudel, and both were absolutely wonderful — simple, honest food, prepared with love, just the way we appreciate it. If you ever come across José’s Puna empanada food truck—stop everything and treat yourself. I had the ají de gallina empanada and it was, without exaggeration, outstanding. The filling was rich, creamy, and full of flavor, wrapped in a perfectly crisp, golden crust.

What makes it even better is José himself. You can tell he’s not just cooking—he’s pouring his heart into every bite. He’s passionate about his craft, and it shows in both the quality of the food and the energy he brings to the experience.
