Sathian Thai food — Restaurant in Area D (Cowichan Bay)

Fantastic spot, delish food (BEST Pad Thai I've ever had, hands down! Nothing extra needed which is unusual for me, being addicted to sauces). The Salad Rolls were like eating from a fresh garden. Absolutely delightful. Good service, although neither lady (1 was owner) speaks much English so communication can be a bit challenging. Prices are excellent too. Definitely a new fave!

EDIT: went back 3 more times while I was in town for 11days, brought friends & food was great. Spring rolls & Gyozas were ok, quite small & not my fave. Beef Pad Thai was not as tasty as Veggie Pad Thai (to me). Salad Rolls were consistently fantastic.

Then only major issue was that the 2 ladies got the heat (hotness) of our orders mixed up, so my Red Curry was super spicy hot while my friends Pad Thai was not. I had asked for medium & he asked for hot hot hot ~ so I had a upset stomach from the excess heat (I had to take half home & add things to make it milder) the next day.

That's when we realized the mix-up ~ of course we all noticed mine was quite spicy but I had ordered an Appy, so didn't eat most of my Red Curry, (took it home & had it for dinner) I also had added an order of rice on the side, which helped.

I went back again eat there on my own, 2 more times while I was in town but knew that due to the English issue, the owner wouldn't understand (the heat mixup) so I was not able to say anything. I will be back & bringing hubby on wkend, we live 2h away so coming for a cpl of nights. I love Cowichan Bay, such a special spot, as is this...

My husband called in an order, verifying multiple times that it all be made with a special dietary request. He was told they could accommodate his request and that the order would be ready in 45 minutes (it was busy as it was Mother’s Day). The food took 30 minutes longer than he was told, which was fine, we understood how busy they were. When he got home we realized all the food was not made as requested and so we could not eat it. I took it back to simply get our money back, and was treated so disrespectfully. There was no apology, the owner said my husband didn’t make the request (he said it at least 4 times), then changed her story and said the other woman working there was the one who took the phone order so that was why she didn’t know about it?? She then threw the food out angrily and threw a random amount of money on the counter, which was not even close to what we paid. I told them how much they actually owed me, and that I was so disappointed with her response, and still there was no apology, only anger directed at me and excuses because of how...

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. We were seated and waited at the table for 30 minutes — no one came to take our order. When I finally asked a staff member, they responded with a rude tone, saying, “Go back and wait, I’ll come.” Ten more minutes passed before someone came who didn’t speak English and couldn’t understand our order. After a confusing attempt, another staff member came to reconfirm everything — again, with zero apology for the delay.

Then we were told that the fish we ordered was unavailable — only after we ordered it. When we tried to consider another option, the server became visibly impatient and said “I’ll be back.” When we quickly decided and tried to call him back, he again responded rudely: “I said I’ll come back.”

The service was slow, disorganized, and downright disrespectful. No apology, no effort to make it right — just a terrible attitude. I would not recommend this...
