Upon entering the cafe we were greeted with a friendly woman who guided us to a table and proceeded to tell us the menu specials. She said she would return and never did. Other people before us that came in later were being served. I had to get up and tell another lady our order wasn't taken . Of course she apologized and that was it. My husband ordered fish cakes which were mostly potato and hardly any fish. They were nothing compared to the ones I had eaten at a quaint seaside cafe on the west coast. I had pea soup which consisted only of pea and carrots. Where was the turnip and ham?! Also, a little salt goes along way to help with the taste. Finally, my son ordered a grill cheese. Something we all assume isn't difficult. Well, they used 1 slice of processed cheese and my son immediately threw up after exiting the cafe. The touton I had she said won awards. Not possible unless the other competitors were worst than this one.!! Gosh sakes the glass of water tasted like old plumbing. Never would I ever go back again or recommend it to another person....

The touton is award winning and we were taught how to eat it properly, with butter and molasses. Beans were good. Portion was very large. Everyone in the restaurant, staff and guests were all very friendly and curious of our travels as we clearly aren't from Newfoundland & Labrador. Paulin (a patron) was the best, and the staff and guests gave us a great suggestion to go 4 min further down the road for some great views and to view the Dark Hole Gulch. ...

We spent the past 2 weeks at my in-laws house just up the road a bit and visited the cafe a total of 5 times, or was it 6? Anyway, never have I felt more welcome, at home or comfortable at a place I had never visited before. The staff here are absolutely phenomenal, the food is some of the best I've ever had and the atmosphere is so damn cozy. We've only been back home in Alberta for 2 days and I truly miss the cafe, it is a very special place and I am counting down the days to our next visit! Again, thank you all so very much.
I want a hug next time Kim, Derrick shouldn't be the only lucky one!
